I won't go as far as that. Heydari has/had ton of talent but not a good work ethics. I also do not like his style of wrestling since I think he does not wrestle with his brain and does not wrestle smart.
I think he could have many more medals if he practised more regularly and wrestled alittle smarter.
I have a feeling this was his last year as I don't think he be any match for Ganji next year.
How can you not be smart but be able to beat that giant Kurtanidze? How can you not be smart but be able to pull 7 medals in 10 years? Alireza Heydari, after Rasool Khadem and Alireza Dabir is probably the best wrestler we've had after the revolution.
Not that it's anyone's business but I heard from a very reliable source that the guy is into women big time. Apparently he is a womanizer. Even for that I'd give him the thumbs up!

Correction: Majid Torkan should be there too.

How many medals has he achieved so far ?
How can he not use his brain and be smart and be chosen the most technical wrestler in the world ?
maybe you need to check yourself out and check your knowledge on wrestling before commenting on one of our best athletes ,our captain with a great attitude .
And Agha Shoja
You did not read my posts correctly. I said Heydari has ton of talent and that is why he has so many medals. The guy is great wrestler but is too depended on his power.
Example, how many times in a row did he loss to that Russian guy !!
I am comparing him to the likes of Movahed, Rasol khadem or Majid Torkan and Dabir or even Amir Reza khadem.
I think those guys not only had the technique and the power, they had a very high IQ in wrestling.
There is no need for you to get all offended and .... This is just my personal opinion.
Mark My word today : wait 3 month till Ganji recover fully from his injury and lets see if Heydari is able to beat him. If he does, I take what I said about him back.

Agha Shahin,
Your are referring to Kurtanidze who is from Georgia and not Russia. I don't have the exact stats on him, but I know for a fact that Heidari beat him once in Sydney (2004), once in NY in world championship, and once in Iran if I am not mistaken in 1998. So, considering he is one of the bests in the history of wrestling, that's not a bad record.
As for Movahed, he is an exception and you can't even compare Rasool to him. They guy has 6 gold medals all in a row under his belt, we might have to wait another century to see one like him.
I agree that Rasool was very smart but once you step into the heavy weights you have to use your power. Rasool started out in 68kg and towards the end of his career he even wrestled in 130. So, even Rasool had to use his power along with his high IQ as you put it.
The story for Dabir and Torkan is different though. In lower weights all you need is skills and a good brain so, you can't really compare the way they fought to Heydari.

Aghayan ! it is impossible for a wrestler with low IQ to win so many medals ,
Comparing him to Movahed is wrong ,I can name more wrestlers who were genius as well .Each flower has its own scent .
The wrestler that agha shahin mentioned I would welcome him to come and challenge ,why not ? team melli belongs to the best and one has to beat others to be in team melli .but we are talking about now and present .

Agha Shoja, I think Heydari only won once against that guy. But I coud be wrong and mixing him with Jadidi. If I remeber Jadidi has his own gorbeh Siyah russian wrestler as well.
Oghab Jan, My boy Ganji ( Do you know him) will be the man to beat in 96 kg for years to come ;) ( another Mazandarani )

Amir Khadem was only good to beat Behrooz Yari in 74kg...so please, do not even compare Heydari to Khadam. Khadem won a single Gold and a couple of bronzes and that was it. Now compare that to Heydari and tell me who was better. Plus, at the time of Khadem, there was no real genius in his weight, and if he was good and had a high "IQ" how come he never made it that big?
