It looks like the Iranian Navy really wanted people to see its new submarine. In a live broadcast on state TV on Wednesday, the Islamic Republic showed off a new Sina 7 submarine that is painted in an unusually bright turquoise blue hue.
So, why exactly would any military want to design its ship in a color that can be easily spotted ? TheDaily Mail speculates that the ship's designers mistakenly chose the color, believing it would help the craft blend in with the ocean's waters.
Launched from Bandar Abbas, near the Strait of Hormuz, the Sina 7 and two Ghadir-class submarines represent the first wave of the country's "indigenously built" warships, Iran said.
"Since the beginning of the Islamic Revolution, we have learned not to ask for help from other countries and stand on our own feet in meeting our demands," Iranian Navy commander Habibollah Sayyari said during the broadcast.
"Thanks to the Islamic Revolution, Iran has acquired the know-how to build submarines. No one believed that we would reach a point where we would build destroyers capable of carrying helicopters and missiles in the Sea of Oman and oceans … because it's a very difficult task to build destroyers and submarines."
The Sina 7 is reportedly capable of firing anti-ship missiles, which the Iranian government says is a centerpiece of its new defense strategy.
Two repaired hovercraft vehicles were also showcased during the broadcast.

Now I'm no naval architect, BUT, after you account for the power plant, fuel, ballast tanks, pumps and all of the other equipment that is NEEDED to run a submarine, where does one put an anti-ship missle (don't forget the computer guidence system needed for it on board) that is large enough to make...

The comments are funny but I wish there was someone with navy experience to confirm that smaller submarines lack tactical use. This could be designned for asymmetric naval wars. As far as the color, the coments sound equally simplistic. The contrast with the color of water they submerge into at the tactical depth range is what might matter. After all, they track submarines with sonars.

Also it is likely an imported version of some russian junk.

This is for gullible folks in Iran, which it will back fire, since it gives the US and European countries more excuse to sell more weapons to arab countries.

Few more comments that I find quite funny:

"Their Pink one is on the way to San Francisco for a Port Call."

"WoW! A 6 man crew.. Let's see, 4 for peddling, 1 for stearing and 1 for reciting prayer and yelling ALLA AKBAR!!!

Yip, they got it al togeather on this one...."

I was also wondering about the crew. Is it 6 crew submarine or these guys are just standing on top, spaced very carefully , trying to balance the "submarine" and stop it from tipping !!!

"Apparently the Iranian Home Depot paint department has problems with their paint mixing."

"They just repainted the old ones from Disneyland."

All that being said, these toys are giving hard ons and wet dreams to moron islamist inside Iran and making rest of us laugh out loud.
It is win win situation for both side :)

Now, if they had put as much effort in how to manufacture " choob bastani" , IRI would not have to import $40 million dollars worth of wood sticks last year................

Funny comments indeed................

Question,

would you rather be Pakistan and develop combat aircraft with the help of Chinese, and nuclear submarines with the help of Ruskies?
Or would you rather be Switzerland, that has none of those things but have Roche and Novartis and develop cutting edge medicine?

What has all the advances Pakistan has made in terms of military technology done for the Pakistani economy? How are people in Pakistan benefiting from such a large state investment in militarization? Don't compare them to US military because everything the US military has is made by private companies and contractors and the money trickles down to the general population.

How has developing toy subs and mooshaks helped Iranians in general? I mean besides inviting more sanctions that limit our population's access to much needed medicine and food?

If Iran billed this vessel(I don't call it a submarine yet as nobody knows if it can actually submerge, and come back up) as an experiment in building min subs for exploration and scientific missions it would be just fine. In fact, it would be commendable. The problem is we all know that they are putting this out as a war machine that is supposed to go against an entire carrier strike group. That's where the ridicule comes in .
