the time line in this case is very revealing.

iran arrested mr. djalali in 2016 as a spy who helped
the isreali terrorists assassinate iranian nuclear scientists.

then all of a sudden mr. noury was arrested in sweden in
2019 on bogus charges claimed by the m&m gang.and he
has been on a show trial for almost a year.

so clearly mr. djalali was such an important asset for the
anti-iran terrorists that they planned and executed an operation
to take mr. noury hostage in order to influence the case iran
has against mr. djalali.

now iran has confirmed his death sentence and reports say
mr. djalali will be executed by may 21.

the swedish hostage taking may force iran to exchange the
isreali spy for the innocnet iranian

Iran to execute Swedish-Iranian on spying charges by May 21

DUBAI — A Swedish-Iranian national sentenced to death in Iran on charges of spying for Israel will be executed by May 21, Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency said on Wednesday, as the trial of a former Iranian official suspected of war crimes ended in Sweden.

Ahmadreza Djalali, a disaster medicine doctor and researcher, was arrested in 2016 while on an academic visit to Iran. Iran’s judiciary did not immediately comment on ISNA’s report that Djalali faces execution later this month.

“Sweden and (the) EU condemn the death penalty and demands that Djalali be released,” Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde said on her Twitter feed. “We have repeatedly stated this to Iranian representatives. We are in contact with Iran.”

The announcement came shortly before the trial of Hamid Noury, a former Iranian prosecution official arrested by Swedish authorities in 2019, ended in Stockholm. The verdict is due to be announced on July 14.

Iran’s state TV reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian demanded Noury’s immediate release in a telephone call with his Swedish counterpart Linde, calling the trial “illegal.”

But was taken in a lot earlier. no?
Yes and they had other reasons for it. But now as you can see he is a bargaining chip for Nouri. The regime never managed to explain or show proof of how Jalali was a spy, or what information he's supposed to have passed on or from which department or ministry. They guy didn't have any contact with any IR department other than Universities.

The way I see it is, if they guy is guilty of such a serious crime, why keep him waiting? Why haven't they executed him by now? What are they waiting for if not for the chance to exchange him for one of their criminals? Even now, if he's guilty, why bring up the issue of tit-for-tat for Nouri?

IR knows that more and more its crimes are being exposed and the criminals that have committed them are always in danger of being convicted outside Iran. This is why the wave of arrests and fake accusations against dual nationals started in recent years. That's why in all these cases they haven't been able to provide any shred of proof. There is none.
