This is the famous 'Burj Al Arab' Sheikh Mohammeds dream to create a glowing tribute to Arab greatness( something like the waht the Pharoahs wanted to do for Egypt 3000 years ago!) The hotel cost 700 million dollars and will not repay for itself for another 100 years! It is suppose to be an icon that distinguishes Dubai, like the Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal. I have been inside several times and its an engineering Marvel!

It doesn't impress me since they sat on their ass while foreigners pumped the oil for them and used some of the money to finnance these projects, and bring in their expertise to design & build.
I am more impressed by various projects in Kish Island which happen to be co-designed by Iranian & German firms. It's a complete residential complex, shopping, entertainment, golf course, 7-star hotel, underwater restaurant......
