No offence taken and you are spot on (in regards to me anyway). After seeing "regime changes" in the surrounding countries, I am even more convinced that the only hope for prosperity (and a slim hope at that) is through reform (or peaceful change) from within.

haha of course nor did I accuse you of doing so... Re your second point, it's funny and witty but not true....journalists found life much easier during the Khatami era than now. You may argue that the reform path is a 360 degree course that will lead again to the likes of AN (which I share some...

Sorry we are having a debate and hold opposing views. In general when this happens, regardless of the topic or nature of the debate, both parties will test each other with comments and questions in a bid to show the other that their theory is flawed and doesn't hold water. Bi-Honar is doing the...

    1) Who said anything about shutting up? This is a discussion forum where you criticised those that support reforms and I asked what's your alternative. That's all. I don't want anyone to shut up actually as much as I do find it ridiculous dismissing the reformists out of hand when they don't...

What is the plan? And even if there is a plan to "kick the akhunds out" and is executed successfully, then that would be the easy part accomplished! Road map that would lead to having another go at reform. Yes may not get there and reform may well fail again (even if it succeeds it won't be...

Well first step there is a hope now that sanctions could be eased thus economy slowly improving...Also social restrictions could be eased...Rohani may not be khatami but he is a moderate and a pragmatist..And in fact he may be stronger than Khatami...Also don't forget that Khamenei will most...

Well I agree with you in theory and in an ideal world you'd be spot on. But in practice its just not possible...it sounds abstract! Reforms within this system has already failed once and another go is going to be littered with problems. But it is the only way IMO

نوریزاد در برنامه به عبارت دیگر

Not necessarily....My friend employed a Bahai girl in his office (as a secretary) but he was under constant pressure from herasat (or others) that he eventually had to let her go...I think she still does some work for him (such as helping with website etc) from home. However there might be...

Shapour Bakhtiar on Iran Iraq war

But had he done so he would've been branded illegitimate both internationally and nationally (like his last 25 years) Thats the problem with us middle-easterns - when we have a democracy there is a huge probability that Islamists will rise to power and when we have a dictatorship it loses...

Shapour Bakhtiar on Iran Iraq war

Am sure you guys have watched this video on Bakhtiar produced my Manoto TV 2 years ago (on the 20th Anniversary of his murder). If you haven't its well worth the watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjrHr3Q-BaQ

Shapour Bakhtiar on Iran Iraq war

Weren't the strategies you are suggesting practiced before Bakhtiar took over? And they just added fuel to the revolution. Yes Bakhtiar didn't succeed the averting the disaster but he did expose Khoemini and his supporters but unfortunately it was too late and the people didn't buy it (or...

Shapour Bakhtiar on Iran Iraq war

Exactly. He spent his younger years fighting Franco and Hitler where in reality he had no business nor was it in his interest - hardly the characteristics of an opportunist traitor who would go to bed with Saddam Hussein! He had the political maturity to try to save and reform the Pahlavi...

Shapour Bakhtiar on Iran Iraq war

Actually those were the 3 things he wasn't Bi-Honar jan.. Confused - No he took on the premiership when he knew the odds of success are slim, but still accepted in a last bid to save Iran Un-insightful - In fact he was very insightful. He knew exactly what was to come - something his...

'Celebrating Rouhani's victory in Iran makes a mockery of green movement'

A well written article full of emotional rhetoric that offers no alternative whatsoever! Yes all the contents sound lovely in theory but If only theory could be directly applied into practice in the world of middle-eastern politics!

Shapour Bakhtiar on Iran Iraq war

If Bakhtiar had sided with Saddam, or had betrayed Iran by any other mean, I doubt IR would've gone through the trouble of assassinating him - they would have just exposed him!

    Iranian President selection thread

That is true. From all the people I know who recently immigrated (the politically engaged ones) only a couple didn't vote whereas from my expat friends who immigrated 20+ years ago, most of them stayed away. But they probably didn't vote 4 years ago for Mousavi or some of them even didn't vote...
