Torino and Pescara will join SerieA next year, after Pescara beat Sampdoria 3-1 in Genoa and Torino beat Modena 2-0 at home to come back to SerieA now we can beat them again
Padova lost to relegation struggling team Nocerina to not be able to make playoff and send Sampdoria and Varese to playoff. Verona also crushed Varese and Sassuolo beat Reggina so both still be at 77 points with Sassuolo in advantage. Varese with only one point more than Sampdoria are playing eachother in the last match with Juve Stabia vs Sassuolo and Modena vs Verona will tell us who play who in playoff but for now Torino and Pescara are through and Sassulo, Verona, Varese and Sampdoria will play in playoff. Also Livorno and Empoli switched places as Livorno beat Brescia 3-1 and Empoli drew so for now Empoli is in playoff zone with Vicenza who also beat Bari 3-1 to maintain their spot over Nocerino. So Nocerino with 40 points is in relegation zone and Vicenza and Empoli with 41 and 44 points in playoff zone and Livorno, Ascoli and Bari above the zone with 45, 46 and 47 points are still not safe.

The SerieB is over and Pescara won the title after beating Nocerino and Torino failed to score in Bergamo and drew with Albinoleffe. Nocerino was relegated after this and Vicenza won their game to play in playouts with Empoli. Livorno beat Cittadella to stay out of playouts and send Empoli to play with Vicenza for relegation. Varese beat Sampdoria as well to be one place above them. Verona drew and Sassuolo won so they be in third and Verona in fourth place so Varese will play Sassuolo and Sampdoria play with Verona in semifinals of playoffs. The rules of the playoffs are different and this article will explain it better.

"The Serie B regular season is over, but the dates and kick-off times of the promotion play-offs and relegation play-outs are drawn up.

Only one side will join Pescara and Torino in Serie A, so Sassuolo, Verona, Varese and Sampdoria go into the play-offs.

The rules are somewhat complex, as in the semi-finals there is no extra time, away goals rule or aggregate.

Sides get a point for a draw and three for a win. If they are level and so is goal difference, the team that finished higher up the table goes through.

In the play-off final the same rules apply with a slight adjustment. There is extra time if they are all square, but again no away goals rule or penalty shoot-out.

If the teams are on level terms after extra time, then the side with the stronger regular season finish is qualified.

This means Sassuolo finished third, so could get promoted with just four draws.

The same applies to the relegation play-outs, so in theory Empoli could stay in Serie B with two draws, as they finished higher up the table than Vicenza."

The first leg of semifinals were played yesterday and Varese beat Verona 2-0 in a dominating fashion and Sampdoria came back to beat Sassuolo 2-1 so both lower teams beat the higher places team yesterday. I will post some highlights later...

Sampdoria and Varese will play in the final to decide the third team advancing for SerieA. Sampdoria hold on to the 1-1 draw to Sassuolo in Modena to advance to the final after Sampdoria won the first game 2-1 at home. The same result also made Varese past through Verona which they also had won the first game at home. So both third and fourth teams in the table lost to fifth and sixth teams. Sampdoria started the season very poorly but finishing it very strong but it would be tough against Varese as they lost to them 3-1 recently.
Also Vivenza and Empoli played the first leg play out which ended 0-0 it would make the next game the must win game for Vicenza in Empoli.

So the first leg of final was played in Genoa yesterday and Sampdoria was able to beat Varese 3-2 to have the advantage for the next game. Varese has to win at least by one goal to be able to advance to the SerieA otherwise Sampdoria will be back after one year. I hope Sampdoria makes it, they do belong to the top league specially when they made CL just two years ago. However it was a very impressive come back to make the playoff and be in the pole position to qualify for SerieA after a very bad start of the season.
