What is "old fashioned"? Paying for her own birth control pills? How about free condoms then? I don't see anybody asking for that. I will come to your side if you answer these questions for me.

    1) How can a rich girl who can afford $40,000 Georgetown tuition not afford to pay for a few pills?
    2) Georgetown is a Jesuit school and Ms. Fluke knew damn well what that means when it comes to getting coverage for contraception.
    3) Isn't she covered under her parents insurance thanks to Obamacare?
    4) Where are all the guys who enjoyed her company and why do the rest of us have to pick up the tab?
    5) If she indeed can't afford to buy herself pills, can't she cut back sleeping around at least?
    6) SHould condoms be covered under health insurance?

No one wanted to re-litigate this issue. It has been the law of the land (contraceptives covered by health insurance) for, oh, 50 years! Are the Republicans really that destitute that they’d rather re-litigate this old, settled issue than talk about the economy (which, by the way, too bad for the Repubs, IS getting better )

Read my comment above. This was NEVER an issue until Santorum, the homophobe, made it one. What is it they say about Homophobes?

How about we re-litigate whether women should wear skirts above or below the knee? This is as creepy as Ayatollah Hassani spewing crap in Iran!

Wrong, contraception is the last desperate attempts of a party so far to the right that would make Mr. Ahmaghinejad right at home. Republicans ought to be talking about the economy, but they'd rather talk about aspirins, contraception, gays, and religion because, as the saying goes, subterfuge is the last refuge of the scoundrell. And, they WILL suffer for it. Sit back, relax, and watch Obama get elected to anothe four years!

ALmost every one of your replies is wrong.

-26 year old "children are covered NOW. Our HR has told us.
-Contraception has never been covered by Religiously-affiliated organizations. So wrong again.
-Georgetown does not and has never provided contraception coverage. IF you want some, got to Walmart and BUY it.

And you last line of defense equating American politics with what is going on in Iran is so silly that is laughable.

Oh, one more question. Do you want free condoms too?

Pahlavoon answered it well. It is great to have open minded, freedom for individual loving people which Pahlavoon nicely did. He respects social freedom of the people. Republicans have it in common with Islamic republic that they dont respect or support right of indivisual and just like Ayatollahs know what is right for others and like to make laws and punish people for it. Islamic republic and Republicans also have in common the use of religion and fear to push their laws and oppress the popluation. As Flint's posts here nicely states.

Flint, what is your biggest reason you hate the children up to age 26 to be covered by their parents. After all, the hard working parents pay high insurance premiums for it. Children up to 26 are healthy people. What is it that you are so against it.

And you are wrong about government covering it. If parents cover it, then they are paying for it and not the government. However, if parents dont cover it, and the children dont have insurance, then the government has to cover it. This is something that Republicans just can't get. That people without insurance, cannot get care early enough to get rid of many problems early enough. When the problems becomes serious later, they end up in emergency rooms and when they dont have insurance, they become the problem of the government who has to pay high prices for them.

Republicans have only one strategy, give all the tax cuts to the top 1% and it will trickle down. Those 1% take it and invest it into emerging countries, China, India, Brazil, South Africa, Australia. It does not help US. That is why they cant even see the issue with insurance that so many are affected by it.

It is doomed a country whose creator declared the first laws of Human right, yet, its people worship the history of those who invaded them .

Good for you and your HR. Do you think your HR can now help bring this economy back to life by refusing to pay for contraceptives?

1- True. But, neither has it ever been an issue. Go READ (you know as opposed to just listen to and repeat FOX) the language being put into Repubs' amendmenets and how they can refuse ANY insurance coverage to ANYONE (not just women) on "moral" grounds.

2- How's that gonna help people with jobs and the economy? Let me guess, contraceptives are delpeting the national treasury

Yup. This was an old, settled issue before the dogcatchers doubling as Republican candidates decided to renew the debate. Refer to my previous statement.

I know. Just as how the ayatollahs in Iran attribute earthquakes to "immorality, right?

It wasn't on my mind, but if the morality police wants ot provide it, sure, why not?

You still haven't answered my question: what do Psychotherapists say is normally true about people who are great homophobes, do you know?

Case in point. Folks from other countries are laughing at us for talking about something COMPLETELY unrelated to the troubles of the world! Thank you Republican "candidate" bozos!

You write a lot but say very little.

    ps

26 year old is NOT a "child". What were you doing and where were you at 26? Did you consider yourself a child. The reason Obama wants them on their parents policy is because he knowns he can't get them jobs.

I say a lot, but you choose to play dumb.

As to your second point, perhaps, but contraception AINT what's ailing this country. If the Republican bozos want to be helpful, they ought to be talking about THAT not some morality policing issue, bordering on "Ayatollah think."

    No, indeed it doesn't.

They could hold daily Kapoot Debates on CSPAN for the next 8 months featuring Obama and Romney dressed as Batman and Robin and it still wouldn't come close to the tragic circus that passes for politics under IR...in part because in the American circus no one gets raped, tortured or executed! Then again I'm sure IRIB tells you differently.

How can a nation bear the shame for leaving their citizens so vulnerable? Please send the kids away before reading this piece.

“When I look around my campus, I see the faces of the women affected by this lack of contraceptive coverage.

“And especially in the last week, I have heard more and more of their stories. On a daily basis, I hear yet from another woman from Georgetown or from another school or who works for a religiously-affiliated employer, and they tell me that they have suffered financially and emotionally and medically because of this lack of coverage.

Rush Limboogh is an idiot who doesn't even deserve a response to his half witted daily shit talk. But I like to respond to the comments made here.

The point is not the Georgetown student as individual but rather the point she is making as an advocate. The point is that an insurance company has no business imposing its own personal or religious values on individual consumers or patients. Taking birth control pills is not just about having carefree sex with any random guy.

What if a woman is married and doesn't want any further children (either because of financial or health reasons)? What is she supposed to do have no sex with her own husband or risk getting pregnant and then go thru abortion?

What if a woman has PCOS and needs the birth control pill to regulate her menstruation and lower her risk of diabetes?

What if a woman has a premedical condition that endangers her life if she becomes pregnant? Should her choice be only to remain celibate?

The point is that if a health insurance company doesn't fully believe in modern medicine and medications then it is the one that needs to stay the fuck out of medical business and stick to the business of praying or whatever the hell it is they believe in instead of putting the patients and people at risk.

This was/is a discussion taking place in the thread called "Kapoot."

    BT jon,

contraception is simply the latest subterfuge by the ultra-right wing nut jobs of the Republican party to divert attention from the fact that they are a party for and by the rich people and have no constructive idea to contribute to the jobs/economy discussion. Otherwise, this issue was settled over 50 years ago in this country and calling the poor girl a slut is tantamount to going back to the time when women were called "toots" and "honey" at work place and were tasked to things like getting coffee for men and buying presents for their boss' wives. In fact, the clown otherwise known as Limbaugh has already apologized for his brain dead comment.

Over 80% of Catholic women on whose behalf the righties are crying wolf use contraceptives, the American people overwhelmingly think of this as a non-issue, and if that student is a slut, so is Rush Limbaugh’s four wives, mother, and sister, unless if they paid for all contraceptives completely out of pocket. Either that or if he happens to have hundreds of children and siblings, which he does not.

    Flint,

I answerd you once in the other thread, but here it goes again:
