2011 World Weightlifting Championship, France
November 5 - 13
Iranian weightlifters left Iran on Thursday, November 3, 2011.

Interesting statistics about Iran.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Weightlifting_Championships

Iran either did not participate or did not win anything from 1991 - 1998 and 2007, 2009

The Champinship was held in Tehran, Iran twice:
1957 November 8-12
1965 October 27 - November 3

Iran in overall medal ranking is in Number 9 position. I thought we should be higher.
Mohammad Nassiri is the most famous Iranian who won 9 medals (5 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammad_Nassiri

In 2003, Iran ranked 2nd and I was in Vancouver to watch the games.
4Gold 1 Silver,

I am surprised there is no mention of Hossein Reza-zadeh. Here is Reza-zadeh's record
1999 1 Silver Overall: Bronze
2002 3 Gold... Overall: Gold
2003 2 Gold 1 Silver..... Overall: Gold
2005 2Gold 1 Silver..... Overall: Gold
2006 3Gold Overall: Gold

Half of Iranian medals in Weightlifting have been won by two people: Nassiri and Reza-zadeh

Good wishes to our Weighlifters in 2011.

I have been following all the matches. IRIB showed the match live with many good information about the 85 kilo weight. They also talked with Housian-zadeh which was interesting. I have decided not to post at ISP because of personal attacks which are permitted by the Administrators or moderators. I will follow the games to the end. As reporters said Iran's time has just started for winning medals and Iran has a good chance that after over twenty years to stand on third place (overall medals): China, Russia, Iran. It has become a tradition to get rewards for this too. Enjoy it, I cannot wait for other weights. Cheers. :cheer-2:

I loved how Bagheri was talking to Kianoosh in KURDISH. Dame Hardeshon Garm. Two Kurdish ShirMard from one of the MOST oppressed races in Iran, people who are not allowed to teach their language and heritage to their kids in school, representing Iran and bringing Joy and honour for it.

It is like a big slap on the faces of those shepesho, Shie Hezobollahi in Tehran.

Bravoo to both of them.

i completely understand what you are saying... That is why i never engage in debates in the general or politics forum.... Hope you can still be active in this part of the forum, beacuse otherwise you will be missed. You have a lot of knowledge of OUR "traditional" sports and there arent many that follow these sports here, eventhough it is an Iranian sports site.

Bagheri is student of that great Bulgarian coach who rejuvenated Iran's weight lifting after many years. Where is Nasirinia and Tavakoli ?? I hope to see them in the coaching positions for the Olympics since both guys have won gold in the world and Olympics before.

Job well done by this team and their coach. I know we don't like Rezazadeh but he did a great job after becoming the head of the federation. When he took over, our weight lifting was hit with many doping controversies and was on its way down and now, we are 3rd in the world.
