I wondered what you guys think about this >

FIFA has the elimination part of the WC finals set already
on top 2 teams advancing from groups and we already
know winners groups
A,B C,D
will continue the elimination among themselves till final
and same is true for winners of groups
E,F,G,H

this means coaches can study possible opponants for
round 16 , quarter final , semi final. You think this is a good
thing or WHAT IF >

they seeded the TOP group winners and drew the rest for
the first elimination phase and carried this on to add an element
of surprise?

I posted some links upon your request on your WC news thread.
please go to the "matches" tab and you see the format of the second round.

I have not studied it throughly but from what i remember

A,B
C,D
E,F
G,H

play each other in the second round (1st vs. 2nds)

and then the eight winners are broken down into two categories of four
for example:
A,E,G,H
B,C,D,F

for the quarter finals....

then the teams from first category that win cross over to the second category.

I remember that Holland, Spain, Brazil are in the same four category
and Germany, England, Argentina in the second so expect some of these Giants to meet each other in the Quarters.

thanks keyvan for the links!

and about the elimination fixture :
that is also what I am saying
that the path of encounter is seprated :

one is within the A,B,C and D group teams
and the other within E,F,G and H

thus from 16 advancing teams , the path for any finalsit
thru play-offs is either among his 8 or that 8 teams!

I suppose there is a reason for this organization-wise
cause we see this format respected in Euro and other
24 team tournies.
