In the first battle we went down to a under sized Bahrain. Some say it was an unexpected blow, others a total tragedy, but to me it was the best thing that could have happened. All it did was turn our soldiers into real man. We now know that any country is capable to take another down with their 11 man army. What makes the difference this time? What makes us sure that our soldiers have what it takes to step on the same turf where they took one of the worst defeats in our nations history?

7 out of 11 players have already been defeated on this turf. Every night when they go to sleep they can’t help but to visualize the moment where the hunters of Asia where hunted by an unexpected island.
Mirzapour
Rezaei
Nikhbakht-Vahedi
Mahdavikia
Nekoonam
Karimi
General Daei
These players will never forget that awful day, and anything but VICTORY this time around will be a disappointment.
4 of the 7 had never been under such pressure and might have choked and were not blamed because of their scarce amount of caps.
MAHDAVIKIA
KARIMI
GENERAL DAEI
the top TRIO of our nation.
The General and his Assistance were defeated and must have token the blame for in the locker room.
BUT it was them who were able to rebuild an Army full of players who are willing to step it up when it has to be.
Iran is coming of two of the must clutches performance of their History. When there was no option but Victory this Squad proved that they are capable of doing just that. 2-0 Jordan and 3-2 Qatar.
Question remains are the soldiers ready this time around.
Iran of 2002 WCQ Squad was suppose to be the best the country had to offer. Combination of bright young stars and great veterans. A team full of confidence stepping on a small Island only having themselves to blame for, but were they really the ones to blame? Why would a superior nation like Iran ever have second thoughts about a nation of no more than 700,000. While Iran stayed over confident, Bahrain came out and played with nothing to loose just to make one point clear “Any team CAN be defeated” This point was made loud and clear to the world. As this started a trend of great defeats of superior nations to underdog nations. In the first match of World Cup we witness what was a unpredicted victory by Senegal over the heavily favored France. In the same World Cup we witnessed S.Korea defeat great nations such as Italy and Spain. While these are happening our Team Melli starts to understand the fact of not over looking any nation. We could say lessoned learned, but one big problem remained. After the disappointing performance by Team Melli in the WCQ matches, Iran said goodbye The great veterans who stepped down to give others the chance to represent their nation. Great players like
PEYROVANI
DINMOHAMMADI
BAGHERI
MINAVAND
Iran was desperately in need of great young stars to give Iran some hope at redeeming themselves. Prayers were answered when Iran witness their U-23 squad becoming victors of the Asian games in Pusan. The future was looking bright when Iran said hello to young talented players like;
KAEBI
NAVIDKIA
KAZEMIAN
BADAVI
NOSRATI
BORHANI
MOBALI
The Future looked bright once again as Iran now consisted of great leadership under veteran players who now had tasted defeat and were willing to step it up and great young blood of Iran ready to help Iran stand for all that it is worth. Things seemed to fall in place for Iran when one of the great Persian precious stones (Hashemian) agreed to put his past behind him and once again represent his nation. Iran looking to be fully loaded and ready for battle when they took one step again by inviting the Persian Kaiser (Zandi) to represent his roots and make Iran stronger than ever.
So how can we be sure that Our soldiers are ready? Well if the pass shall repeat one thing we can be sure for is that our boys have never done the same mistake more than once and for me that’s good enough to believe and have faith in our boys as they start their new journey to the World Cup and what better place to start the journey than the same place their last journey ended. For over 3 years millions of Persians have been waiting to sight of their soldiers getting another shot at redemption. For a few it will be their chance to prove that history will not repeat and to other new comers it will be their chance to start history all over with only one hope. To take their place in Iran’s history book as Team Mellis clutches team.

With only a few days left to the in counter between Iran and Bahrain. All of us our very excited and nervous ad I hope I have not offended any by referring to our Team Melli as Soldiers, as many of you might know this much more than a game to us Iranians. Futbal/Soccer is in our bloods.

Very nice and very well put!
Great text!

Although I would add Golmohammadi among the ones who lost to Bahrain as well! He was there, although he didn't play!
