fter Iran's GR wrestlers dominated the competition, the FS wrestlers (this is their B team) did not do so well in the first day.

While they medaled in every weight, they have zero golds so far. Perhaps the most disappointing loss was Nassiri losing to Berjang in 65 KG. I believe Nassiri had teched Berjang in their previous match.

Let's hope for a better day 2! Iran has won this competition 3 years in a row, and it would be a shame for the streak to end.

Is there any great potential to replace the big names in GR side?
I didn't follow this tournament and just saw some new faces...

In GR, there is a definite need to replace the stars, since most have retired or are retiring. Iran looked good in world cup, barely losing the Russian A team, and had a good showing in Asia, at least in the heavier weights

In FS, we have a good A team (I think the A team will be wrestling in the islamic games soon), and this is a good chance to test some of the potential replacements.

Shahbazigazvar, who just won silver in the 97 Kg, is a recent Juniors world champion, and has a good future ahead of him

Thanks, so last year there wasn't any World Championship because of Olympics, right?

I guess this year World Champ is a good place to give these young stars a chance.

yes, there are no world championships during the Olympic year.

World cup, world championship, Asian Championship, Yarigyn grand Prix are the premier tournaments each year

To a lesser extend Takhti cup is a good place to test new wrestlers

I am getting the rules down in GR and notice the gene pool is not as big as FS wrestling but that is natural. Also, even with Iran's B squad they can win who cares about Asian GR anyways? No major players like Russia A, USA A or Azerbaijan A. Which is why only Olympics and the World Championships count. To me Asia GR or FSR is just armature hour at the Apollo, a nice, cute little tourney, a warm up. How did the B squad look I missed it huge grappling fan Gracie Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belt here. The fundamentals of BJJ and koshti are the same, one sets up their opponent with footwork, the Iranians and Russians are MASTERS at that, I am covered.

Thank you for the updates and Farsheed jan can you post some vids of the champions? I watch a ton of MMA, Krav Maga, BJJ, boxing MT and even koshti to help my game out, greatly appreciate it! I LOVE this stuff you guys knwo that. I never did koshti but i bet you with my genetics and BJJ purple belt background, I would pick it up in no time, be it free style or greco roman. Of coruse I know GR is more hand to hand and no legs really or take downs like FS. The main thing is Iranians and Russians(check and checksi) like to set you up by good footwork. I got that with boxing and MT, I am so happy my parents put me in martial arts as a kid. Of course I didn't get athletic until about Jr year of high school but the fundamentals were there. Back in the 80s, kids took one thing say Karate, TKD, Kung fu, now it is all mixed. Can't wait to take special police miltiary krav maga(not for civilians) hope I get this job at Indian Springs st Corrections, Damet garm hanvatans! They don't have the resources as other nations but still kick buttski through Gerayat baby! I have that Garayat part through the Azar side. Lov eyou guys love koshti and combat, it is the ultimate physical chess match baby! You got to be one or two steps ahead of your opponent. If there EVER is a regime change, I would LOVE to be a martial arts coach for say the judo team(BJJ background) but would LOVE to teach Iranians the ART OF STRIKING. We are lagging in that dept, just honest observation but of course not everyone. You can find good strikers anywhere, it is just not emphasized like it is in say USA or Russia.
