Its not like the iranians outside have "laid a two yolk egg". Just look at the thread on hamayesh or the New York dinner or the Carter demonstration.

ZA joon, man ham bahat moafegham dar kol. vali Iranihaee keh dar oroopa hastand bishtar siyasi hastand ta iranihaye amrika neshin. lazemeh keh yek bar dar berlin, stockhol, koln etc. bashi ta bebini cheghadr javve iranihaye moghim dar oonja "hanooz" beh sheddat siyasi ast. (don't forget MahdaviKia, Nekoonam, karimi were based in europe,)
dar jahate taeede sohbate shoma yadame vaghti "Bacheh Tehroon" rafteh bood NY sale ghabl for a demonstration against AN.
How many Iranians actually turned up then, which was also during the heat of the Green movement? 2000, or 5000!? doesn't make a big difference as there are around 3 million Iranians living in north america (including Canada), how many turned up again?
Every weekend you can easily gather 1000 Iranians in Berlin, if you want, and have demonstration opposite Iranian consulate. I have no doubt the same no. could be easily achieved in Paris, Stockholm, Koln, Oslo..

About 10,000-15,000 showed up which was pretty decent considering it was in NY and most Iranians live in California. Also remember, the distances between cities here is humongous compared to Europe. Not easy to get around at all.

I do concede that the Iranian population in Europe is less dissolved in their country of residence and more "aware" of the situation in Iran, but that's mostly due to the fact that Europe is much less welcoming to immigrants than North America and kind'a forces the new-comers to retain their original values to have a sense of pride when faced with minor or major discrimination.

Daghighan Dorost migi RDA Jan

Iranians in US and Canada are very differnt with Europe. We have alot of rish, traditionally religous Iranian families here who migrate before the revolution or shorty after and still have strong religous blifs and some soft spot for Islamic Democracy :)
Then you have the new generation of new Immigrants who mosty studied in Iran and manage to do well and came here as invertment and... Most are still doing business with Iran and care about politics just because they want to be sure it will not effect their business dealings and...

Soroosh jan, I guess sometimes we have to disagree on some issues. This one is one of them. :)
1) Maybe it's only me, but almost 75% of my family lives in Europe, mostly married to europeans guys/gals and assimiliated perfectly. "less welcomed".!!? I don't think so.
2) We all hate MKO, but everytime they have a get-together in Paris, there are minimum 35000-40000 participants from all over europe attending. now do you have any estimations of Iranians liveing in a) NYC b) Washington DC c) Vancouvre? I guess it should be around half a million? Am I too far off? need your help here. IMHO, 10,000-15,000 is just embarassing. I have no doubt many of them were Iranians coming from across the atlantic. :)

Guys..once ur blood pressure has Fallen enough and can actually THINK…it wouldn’t hurt to consider the following…

In the psychi of Iran o Irani anyway......Only a Sar Zende mellat can stand up to tyranny ..only a sare pA mellat can even begin to fight for their right… and like it or not in Iran. Football status has a lot to do with the said mind set.. players motives aside and forsaken..just remember these facts..

The same regime that had its football team in WC98 following the Mellborne miracle..had to confront her people ( only a yr later ) for shutting down a newpaper in 18 Tir 78..

Shah e Kabir was brought down following TM winning 3 consecutive Asian Championship and 2 consecutive Olympic qualification..Indeed not too long after Iran being selected as the Host of 84 Olympics….

So… calm down..

What kind of position could they have put Bagheri in?!! The guy is madly rich, madly popular, madly accomplished and completely done with his career. What was left for him to acquire with this let down?

and then remember..

How many of us said...The regime intentionally made our TM lose to Bahrain in 2001..so that they won't confront a jubilent crowd as in 97...it hurts ..huh..?

Kaz jan, when the government owns %80 of the economy and I don’t live there, I would never sit here and ask people to sacrifice their livelihood just to make a statement against IR. But there is a major difference between that and idiots/opportunists going out of their way to help this regime put a human face on itself.

The people who refuse to acknowledge this difference aren’t just unreasonable. There is a good many among them who know they aren’t above this kind of kesafat-kari, so their covering for these morons is an indirect form of self-defense. You can usually spot them hiding behind the old "Hey we're all like this one way or another so who cares!!" nonsense.

Another thing worth mentioning is that at the height of the Bush era, if some Iranian was photographed taking a picture with him at some Republican photo-op event, I doubt we’d be hearing the same excuses and cries for tolerance as we are now.
IZ jan your second paragraph is undoubtedly true. And there probably are people that you speak of in your first paragraph, which is why I am uneasy with these kinds of public stonings of people's reputatations.

It's too easy for me to be an Internet Warrior and not give an inch to any of these guys; but I really wonder are the likes of Majidi or Bagheri doing this for any reason to benefit them or to get ahead of others? More likely that they just couldn't refuse. So how can I sit here judging them? Sina says they got a lot...well they've got a lot to lose. I don't know what went on, but their pasts make me doubt they're the filth of the Earth as people are trying to make them out here.

Maybe there is a 3rd category: people who pretend they are above all this stuff when inside, maybe if they were in the same situation, they'd give their own concessions. I certainly don't want to be apart of that.

Dude, what's wrong with you? Honestly!
It seems you've lost touch with motherland. Have you been following the news (at least the ones involving Hejazi!?) I don't think so.
So, Hejazi having a job in Taj FC, puts him in the same betrayal position of Reza zadeh, Ghotbi, GN!!???
How can I narrate what Hejazi been thru in the past 10 years in one post?
:--closed:
I'm saying if mud is mud, then they're all swimming in it over there. If Hejazi can take money to lead a govt. owned team; then these guys can play two passes to the President. If we're making inferences based on this kind of stuff; heck we can make plenty. It's not like this is a political support party.

Maybe as you say I don't know enough, as I don't really follow it that closely; but to me Bagheri didn't turn to shit because of this.

IZ jan, as an aside; I think the more AN and co do stuff like this the more they show their desperation. And everyone knows it these days.

I don't know if evolution or time will heal this nation but we are the best in making ethical excuses for our personal benefits. I tell you, in some cases we even consider it " Zerangi" :)
In many cases aziz, if someones does not show "Zerangi" to a certain extent he/she is considered somewhat of a loser.
