I think that this will personally be one of the most memorable World Cups and I think a lot of that will have to do with what happens not on the pitch but outside the stadium. I am really curious to see what happens. Lets try to document it all here.

Here is a List of Anti-Fifa / World Cup Protests with Daily Updates: https://www.facebook.com/molotolove...41827.606876652717811/664336103638532/?type=1

":: USERS MAKE "FREE RATCHET" FOR AN HOUR IN CAPÃO REDONDO STATION!

With the subway workers ' strike, the Purple Line's morning closed today. However, at around 6:0, the Capão Redondo Station was opened as "scabs" to government service-in a completely irresponsible act because these are employees of offices, practically without any training in the operation of trains (last week, one of them led a train of open doors!).

With the opening of doors, users entered the station and for about 1:0, almost no one paid fare for travel: who went in, hopped the turnstile or passing underneath spontaneously. How to security workers are on strike, users have been able to exercise freely the "ratchet", without repression.

However, at 7:0, the scabs that operated the line called the PM, who occupied the station with a dozen armed soldiers to prevent users continue jumping the turnstiles.

While users and workers join in the fight for public transport, the Government and its police rush to protect the turnstiles. Today the Governor and employers prohibit enraged the release of turnstiles. Soon nobody else will ask permission! The Alliance between users and transport workers is unacceptable to those above. The Zero Tariff in practice is unacceptable to those above.

ALL SUPPORT THE STRIKE OF SUBWAY WORKERS!"

According to some people on this forum, these people are all idiots and should be happy that they can sell "ice cream" to tourists. They will all get rich soon. Brazil's GDP has "skyrocketted" thanks to this World Cup.

And you Mr. Payam alongside whoever reports on these anti-World Cup activities is obviously "clinically depressed".

400 million dollars were used until majmoe Azadi were build. They are still in use.
The advantages of a world cup are many like jobs are there, hotels are full up, taxis get work, airlines do good business, laborer get jobs to build new stadiums, but the disadvantages are also there, like flooded with prostitutes, , and a country like South Africa can not afford a a A.I.D.S epidemic.Crime to increases at such a time.
8 years agao it was decieded that WC2014 should be in Brezil Many workers have been paid to prepare for the world cup in many years. Ten days before the world cup people demonstrate against world cup. All the money will be wasted.

Azizjan that's not the point. Building a bridge to nowhere will also generate temporary jobs and stimulate the economy for a short while.

The point is, the investment made into hosting such events always results in a net loss regardless of where it's held. Now that loss might be consumable by a rich country like the US or Canada or Australia because of the rigid taxation system. Brazil and China though are different stories. Their poor financial system cannot withstand such losses without destroying the lives of many citizens (as evident by the huge opposition demonstrated so far). The burden is unfairly distributed and never overcome.

Why are you refusing to accept such a simple fact?

Look the argument that the even generates economic activity is very seductive.

however the issue is that the economic activity is no where near enough to pay for the huge costs.

and those who benefit are often multi national corporations that own hotels and airlines and what have you.

as for the construction stadiums and trains and transportation system.

the issue with them is that you are inorganically building infrastructure that many times will not be utilized after the event.

or heavily under utilized which actually erases the whole economic activity argument.

The very good example of under utilization is actually our Azadi Stadium.

Even during height of game attendance in 1360s and 1370s the stadium only filled up on handful of Esteghlal vs Perspolis.

and national team games.

while if we had organically built stadium as demand grew we might have chosen to upgrade the Existing Amjadieh.

The point is do no necessarily be tricked by the glamor of the new stadiums.

Brazil is going to have a few brand new stadiums that are going to be utterly under utilized after the world cup.

I love the idea of hosting worldcup. if it can be done with existing stadiums with a few minor upgrades.
Not spending 10s of billions of dollars.

Clinically depressed? No. Clinically pissed? Probably.

I'm going to skip debating people here on the cost / benefit of the World Cup -- rather just bring to focus the experiences of those being effected.

With that...

Why would you bet that? What is your reasoning for making such an idiotic claim?

What is Brazil adding to its tourism industry for this 'exponential' increase to happen? Do you ever go to a country to visit their never-used stadiums? Please tell.

It's simpletons like you that have made crony capitalism with false promises and repeated bubbles so viable.

Many haven't seen brezil's attractions before. This will be an opportunity for people to take a tour to a fine Beach in Brezil. Would you miss it if you were there?
An icecream in that Beach:)
Many will return Next year. Why do you think you can make better plans for future of Brezil than their own politicians

Forget it. You're a lost cause.
No I am not. Whenever I use the word icecream you go amoke.
You have 4 billion $. You want to choose between using this Money to
a) Build some stadiums and hold a World cup
b) Use the Money on better Healthcare social reforms Water supply or whatever it is these people want.
The good with a is more Work less unemployment and so on. If you chose B there will be more Money for healthcare less for the problem of unemployment. Since Brezil is democratic there has been elections the Parliament has approved (a). Now the dark side of (a) shows up
but will disapear after World cup.

A lot going on in this link: http://revolution-news.com/brazil-cops-attack-protestors-and-tourists-during-world-cup-demo/

"The streets of 36 cities in Brazil carried the echoes of chants against the injustice, the violence, and the corruption the government has unleashed on the people of Brazil – particularly the poor people in the slums and on indigenous communities – on behalf of FIFA’s World Cup."

"In Sao Paulo alone, at least 135 demonstrators were arrested. Some of them were tourists, who were targeted as “terrorists” by cops, along with other 30 demonstrators who took refuge in a hotel on Augusta street to escape the brutality of the military police. The military riot police took the hotel by siege and held everyone inside hostage: “When they realized they lost control of the situation, the military police simply invaded the lobby of the hotel, and without even bothering to make any distinction between demonstrators and tourists, employed violence and death threats to contain a riot that did not exist in the first place,” Midia Ninja reported. The video below shows cops violently breaking in, pointing their guns at people they took hostage, and even firing what seems to be a tear gas canister in a small closed area. It was clear that they didn’t consider the minimum range for shooting rubber bullets. A rubber bullet fired from less than 20 meters can be lethal.

Cops attacked and beat people at random in the hotel lobby, as this student, a victim and a witness says. The Military Police claim they beat him so badly because he had allegedly injured “the finger” of one of their officers. Cops shot a protester twice – in the chest and in his genitals – as they claimed Fabricio Chaves resisted arrest, but a lawyer who is helping the demonstrators arrested by the cops says the police version of the story is confusing and is not supported by facts. The protester, 22 years old, is hospitalized and badly wounded. The activists of the movement Nao Vai Ter Copa (“Cup will not be”) announced that there will be a vigil on Monday at 17:00, in front of Santa Casa, where Fabricio Chaves is hospitalized, for all demonstrators injured by the military police. They hope to make mainstream media see “the brutal police violence.”"

Livestream from ongoing protests on the day World Cup is set to begin: http://www.livestream.com/activistworldnewsnow

Already a small demonstration was repressed with tear gas and stun grenades. Right now another manifestation is underway ~500 metro workers who are demanding the ~40 workers that were fired during strikes to be reinstated. Earlier in the week the metro workers threatened to go back on strike if they weren't reinstated.
