ک

Thanks so much Kasra jaan. Its a joy to read your analysis of him and his achievements. The more a fan gets to know all the different things he has done for the team and the culture of the federation his genius becomes more apparent.

Yeah they participate more in the build-ups and possession. Still when it comes to defending, teams basically gave up on trying to beat forwards in 1x1 battles. You rarely see a defender going for the player in possession anymore. The odds of winning that battle have decreased drastically compared to 20-30 years ago. The risk of getting a yellow or red-card are high and most of the time the forward is much faster than the sluggish defender.

These days, a fast player with the brain to do things usually doesn't end up becoming a defender. That will probably slowly change in the years to come.
that's because defending has changed. you can still beat someone 1 on 1 but then there will be a help defender because defensive schemes have evolved and improved. compare the way defenders did defending and how much emphasis was put on 1on1s compare to now where it's much more about positioning. football changed in 2008 forever and it became a game of position instead of whatever it was before. Now it's even more than ever about controlling either possession or controlling areas of the field. Take Zidane, Batistuta, or anyone of the guys Sly has still his poster on the wall to 2016 and they are average players at best. That's why Messi is this immense and outstanding talent, because apart of his skillset that is unmatched by anyone before or after, especially the dorkarts from the 90ies (exception Baggio), he also has a spherical vision, awareness of space and awareness of his surrounding no one else had.

There is only a handful of players (Redondo, Baggio, Rui Costa, Figo, Fat Ronaldo probably, Baresi, Maldini in a centerback/left centerback role, not as a leftback, Marco Van Basten) from the 80ies-90ies that could still excel in 2016. For everyone else, forget it! Ask Zidane to press and then let's have a laugh together.

LOL@ Zidane would be average if he played today! :D If Zidane, Ronaldinho, Figo, Brazilian Ronaldo, etc. played today, Messi and C. Ronaldo would not be alone in winning the Fifa Ballon d'or award every year! They'd had the toughest competition they lack today!

And once more the genius of CQ continues for Iran. Korea literally had nothing to say against Iran. The defending was superb and Iran had a number of attacks which they could have scored more. CQ is a master tactician that little by little and step by step gets closer to his goals and pushes his team to victory. During the first 10-15 minutes of the game Iran was under pressure until it found its footing. From there on it was Iran that was dictating everything to Korea. The free kicks and the practice on them has become a very valuable tool for Iran. Also the long throws that we saw in the first half by Beinavard but not so much after that since strategy changed. Iran had a very fast return on counters too to defend and this was frustrating Korea. They committed numerous fouls and had no real threats against the Iranian goalie.

Iran now has had a clean sheet in the last 4 games. It is the only team not to be scored on during this round.

CQ as a coach has now achieved the following:

30 Consecutive win/draw against Asian opposition (World cup qualifier, Asian Cup qualifier, Asian Cup) going back 4 years once its November (Last loss was against Uzbekistan in Tehran Nov 2012) THIS IS A ALL TIME RECORD FOR IRAN

41 games against Asian opposition record:

28W, 11D, 2L

68.2% (Win rate)
95.12% (Win/Draw rate)..... These are truly magical numbers for Iran.
4.8% (Loss rate)

As you see numbers don't lie and Iran is a formidable side which has been the most consistent this far. The team believes in itself and the level of confidence is very high. Vaghean damet garm CQ for getting Iran to where she is today. I hope this great form continues for our boys and our country and they continue to make us proud with their spactacular showing.

Good read

Very interesting read indeed and only goes further to show the depth of the Iranian team and how it is able to be tactically maneuver and be rearranged based on the opponents you are facing. The team chemistry and unity allows for this to happen as we have been discussing since going back some years no fixed player would be willing to be subbed out and look at what happened with Aghili and Rahmati and that actually was one of the major steps in bringing team first mentality to the group.

The founding of new players and implementing this team first mentality is just a few of the vast actions that has been taken for this team to actually be where it is based on how things have gone. This unpredictability of the team when it comes to the line up along with consistency in style of play and showing heart in every game will go a long way as long as the team is allowed to go in its leaders direction. With some friendlies with better opposition the team can even improve more. I don't want to be talking too early but that consistency and development that we were talking about on the team is seen. If Iran makes it to two world cups in a row that is an accomplishment of its own and then we can aim to also go to the second round. But before anything we need this consistency and unity to get stronger little by little and there is still the Syria game left and the second round which is is usually and historically tougher for Iran.

The change of tactics and being able to do this through out the qualifiers also carries a risk factor as the team may not be as glued as during the world cup as indicated based on the German example.

We are doing well but the competition is still close, Uzbeks are 1 point behind us and Korea 3 points. So we have to be careful and not be arrogant and lose points against weaker teams

Next game will show us if Iran has changed and how good the team mentally is. In the past, when pressured Iran played well and won and right after it went back to loosing to weak teams. Hopefully that mentality has changed by CQ.

Good to see your posts Lord jaan. Indeed the next game is crucial for us to take one more strong step towards the world cup. And on this day Korea faces the Uzbeks which a draw would be the best possible result for Iran. I am sure CQ will be all over the team and letting them know how important it is to take this game and win it. The big difference with this team is the mentality and focus and that is most important not to lose sight of the target. I believe Iran will be just as ready for Syria as they were for Korea and even more playing on the road.

For those interested in an excel worksheet that you can input the results and see the outcome of the qulaifiers here is a cool link where you can download the spreadsheet for all continents.

http://www.weglobalfootball.com/downloads/

For those that are really into stats it has a really cool projections section on the bottom that simulates the outcome to a maximum of 2500 repetitions. You can make it less and its a manual number. If using this feature and you update the scores on the 3rd round section make sure to click run to actually run the simulation.

The genius of the master tactician proves yet ONCE again!!! 6 games in this round with a no goals conceded. 30 games against Asian opponents without a loss. A different formation set up for every game that is foreign to those playing Iran. Average age of TM at 25 today. Iran could have won by many goals and displayed a great defensive strategy. I have to say Ansarifard and Beiranvard were the top players today in my opinion. Our goalie showed great reflexes and dives while saving many chances. He was absolutely great today. What about his long throw that almost became a goal. I hope he continues to improve. The pass from Ansarifard was such a great look and pinpoint pass. CQ has put together a great team which I doubt will not see alike for a long time after he is gone. Iran is performing greatly and comfortably and once gets the footing in plays with heart and is very poise. The players were all fighting so hard and did everything they can for Iran. The genius of CQ continues while Iran is cruising on top of the groups. We outta thank this great man for what he has done with Iran and the football team. We have the usual complaints and stuff said about him and the TM. The bottom line is the result and these results should truly shut any critic with no merit up. Congratulations to all the fans for such great victory and another hard step taken which seemed easy in the direction of 2018WC. Norouz khojasteh baad with this sweet win over the lowly Qataris.

Funny enough Persepolis, the best team of Iran and by far, lost to Al-Ryyan 1-3 in the same stadium a week ago with another VIC. People(and including me) will appreciate Carlos once he is gone.
