Mayeli Kohan has never hidden his past. He's the same guy who went on Navad and said I still listen to Dariush.
He is deeply conservative, but for himself.
He hates CQ, but he has his own logic and doesn't actually lie.

Of course he had offers from other countries. There are many teams that would love to have such a great mastermind at the helm. His record and leadership and improvement is apparent to anyone and yet Iranians love to complain and just say negative stuff. As someone said yesterday this is just like the revolution. We had everything and things were so perfect and then some idiots decided things are not going well and lets change the Shah. Shadi zireh dele mardom zadeh bood!

I still find it surreal that TM plays with such discipline. When other nations' fans in Russia were getting all excited about how TM play like a club side, it was one of those "out of body" moments. We've gone from individual players dribbling around aimlessly to this absolute phalanx of a side.

What CQ has done is nothing short of miraculous, if he can finish his project then who knows what might happen...

Whats more shocking is you see so many posts all over the net from people complaining about style and how Iran is playing and how they should be more offensive, attractive, blah, blah, blah. I really can not comprehend what else is needed to show that the system is working like a well oiled machine with so much consistency and yet we get all these complaints. The sheer number of young talents and future starts he has brought to Iran is astonishing. Plus look at how many foreign based players we have again after that late 90's surge we had. At least our players getting exposure against better and bigger competition and get to play, learn, and contribute now and in the future to Iranian football. All this are the great products and by products that CQ has brought to Iran and is adding to it as well. Only imagine if we had some true friendlies against strong sides and no cancelling of such games how much better our team can get. We should have had 2 games in these FIFA days but only managed 1 against the Uzbeks. All the shortcomings and Iran is still playing so well.

Spot on solid post.

Can you imagine if he was in charge in those prosperous years in charge of our golden generation of footballers in the 70s, what he could have achieved with them in world cup 78....

Look where he has taken us in the famine years of our football. The results are there in bold.

To even remotely think of Iran as "King of Asia" is a tasteless insult to countries like Japan and Korea who really worked hard and turned their crappy football around to become the true Kings of Asia.

Gooreh babayeh Korea and Japan …….to be the king of Asia with an empty hand and tokhmi infrastructure is what matters and we are .

I wish they gave cups based on FIFA ranking ! 4 years King of Asia, yet no Asian cup or advancing from their group in World Cup :(
I guess as a Real Madrid fan, you may prioritise silverware over changing the way a team approaches the game, playing with a level of discipline which seems miraculous compared to before, and changing the course of a team from going backwards to somehow keeping up with European sides. A country from a backward pariah state with shitty infrastructure, shittier politics, no good agents etc....

Question: I wonder if you find Mauricio Pochettino, who has not won any silverware but has completely changed the way Tottenham play, a worse coach FOR THEM than Juande Ramos who won them a cup trophy?

If you think Juande Ramos did more for Tottenham than Pochettino has, then I guess we have very different ideas of success (and the context of success). And please don't bring up styles of football, I know Pochettino has a very different style to CQ, I'm talking about choosing the right tactics/style for the specific team, be it Spurs or Iran.

If what is important for you in a coach in a shitty country is just winning titles rather than building the future....?
True but regardless we’re not kings of Asia yet. Definitely most improved and probabaly most respected but we should win the Asian title and I believe we will to claim our long lost crown.
