it was conducted very poorly indeed.
There was a league in early 2000's which was called XFL started by WWF Vince Macmahon. That was a diaster as well but at least the league lasted half a year.
LOL, I checked again and they had the league since 2018 again ... what a joke :D
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XFL_(2020)

After only five weeks of play in its inaugural 2020 season, the league's operations slowly came to a close due to the COVID-19 pandemic,[3] and filed for bankruptcy on April 13.[4] On August 2, 2020, actor, producer and former professional wrestler Dwayne Johnson and longtime business partner Dany Garcia led a consortium with Gerry Cardinale's RedBird Capital to purchase the XFL for $15 million, hours before an auction could take place.[5][6] On October 1, 2020, the league announced it would return to the field for the 2022 season.[7]

These morons chose the worst year, month and atmosphere to announce such a thing. Then they fucked it up further by putting out caricature-like promotion material for the press. They had not a single respectable advocate lined up.

Football has been a disaster during covid. The quality of games has been total shit. The 'super league' teams claim to be the elite of the game but they've been playing garbage football for the most part. Messi and Ronaldo are fading and there is absolutely no replacement for them among stars. Football has been on a decline lately. The only thing keeping fans interested was the rivalry and locality of clubs.

All that, and these fucking idiots decide to attack the locality of the game to please the 15-16 year old boys in India and China. Very smart.
Yes which is exactly the proof that they had only their own interests in mind. They never considered the wider consequences of this action. The big club lost lots of money during the pandemic, but then so did all clubs. Many small clubs may never recover, while I am sure the big boys will. But somehow these big big clubs thought they deserve something more and they should look after their own interests at the expense of all others.

I am glad they failed for many reasons, tradition being one, but also this was the defeat of JP Morgan and the pro-globalisation gang.

The key to success was ensuring major name player buy in. Lack of star power is what caused the rivals to the NHL to fail, although at least they were smart enough to entice top names like Howe and Bobby what'shisname to join their league. Messi stating he would not join the super league was a huge blow.

Personally I think all the clubs involved should be punished by UEFA by sending them down a division. Many of their top players will leave and the problem of dealing with the issue of a super league involving these teams will be gone...hopefully.

Apparently the English club which started the dissent was Manchester City, and it spread to the others....

Imagine fucking City being the heroes here! Khak be sareh Liverpool and Man United. They care more about Saudi than Sefton or Salford.

LONDON - Nine of the 12 Super League clubs have formally renounced the breakaway and committed to the existing European competitions but they will have to give up 5% of UEFA revenue for one season as a punishment for the rebellion that briefly split football.
