There were reports of an ex-TM player seeking asylum from UK, now it's speculated that it is Mehrdad Pouladi who is after it:

I remember him. He played for a bunch of Iranian clubs Tiraktor Sazi, Esteghlal Peykan, Perspolis Mes and now he is playing for Al Shahina of the Qatar Stars league. They should be paying him well. I remember when he was younger he would play forward/striker and the CAM position but now he is a utility guy playing full back, some winger and defensive mid fielder. He is 29 so even if he wanted, I think his TM days are over but hey more power to him, he is getting a paycheck. I do not know what are the requirements to get assaylum in the UK, I know it is pretty dam tough for USA. There usually needs to be a big reason like, if you do not leave, they are going to kill your family. I don't think that is the case with Pouladi. I wish him the best of luck.

How old is he ?

He is not too old but he is 29 my friend. That is right around the time, when athletes turn 30, that they hit "The Wall," as we like to call it here in the USA. Now some athletes can defy time and play late in their careers, at a high level but those athletes are few and far between. If I were him, I would stay in Qatar as long as I can and collect that pay check. It is better than playing club football in Iran and not even getting paid. I do not think we will be calling him back though, even if he wanted to come. We have younger guys now so the TM door is closed. I do not know the UK asylum laws but it it is anything like USA, you or your family need to be in grave danger.

As soon as anyone mention the name of Mehrdad Pooladi, I automatically remember that quarterfinal game Iran Vs Iraq back in January 2015 in Canberra Stadium.
Where, Ben "bloody mofu*ing bastard" Williams as referee transformed what could've been an enjoyable match into one that was wrought with injustice.
Ben Williams unjust allocation of a second yellow card to Mehrdad Pooladi was one that affected the entire game, leaving the Iranian team with 10 players on field.

Pooladi did act a bit childish, but that fucking referee ... man... my rifle still is loaded.... lack of words to describe my feelings!

I would never forget his great performance during WC2014.

A bit childish behavior as I said, but this is what it is. I am still mad thinking of that punishment which was unreasonable and had major effect on the whole team during asian games January 2015.
I among many others here felt sorry for him and defended him, but one or two very known characters here at ISP, which I am sure you know bye now who those one or two anti-Iranian imbeciles are!

They had this Australian fellow who played for the Australian NT and he played in their league so he knew Benny Williams. He said, "CQ's biggest mistake was he criticized Williams after the Bahrain game." He added "When our team would play and we knew Williams was the ref, the coaches would talk to us." He added, "They instructed us not to criticize him, if you criticize him he will be against you but if you praise him, he might be for you." He added, "Benny Williams is the WORST OFFICIAL in Australia and he is not a professional." Those are some pretty harsh words, from a dude who knew Williams very well.
That was an absolute joke and what was more of a joke was the way the AFC aka Arab Football Con artists blindly sided with Iraq. I knew they were going to overlook the fact that one of Iraq's players was illegal and should not have played. Anyways I am just happy that the sandy Sheik and the stupid prince Ali(both from Bahrain) did not win. Can you imagine if we had a Bahraini guy as the President of FIFA? Holy $hit talk about Iran never qualifying for the world cup again.

As a national soccer player, you could easily move to another country I would imagine. Why to go through this route ?

You know what, if that jagoff referee had succeeded in the art of judging the same way against England, Germany or Spain, they'd cut his nasty hairy balls and shove'em up his mouth!

Me fella, think..... and think twice, who would aid the young fella of Iranian Team Melli against such injustice in situation like this?
I can tell you, no one..... no one at all, and all of that because of the retarded IR-mullas!
Apart from that, we got a couple of imbeciles here on ISP-forum who enjoying situation like this!
