Yazdani lost, zarbe fani shod.

4-2 Iran
He was competing in a weight higher(86) and against David Tylor(who beat Sharifov, Bronze medalist of last year Olympics ealier), Yazdani was leading his match for most part, i guess lack of experience was the main reason he lost his fight, he will learn from that.

Merci Babr jan it was a very exciting match. At first the Iranians dominated but then Jordan "The MAN" Burroughs won his match and the USA made it a match. Clearly, the best teams are Iran and then USA. I might not have a backgrond in koshti but I have a grappling background from jiu jitsu and I played American football. Honestly you can use a ton of the Jiu Jitsu and football concepts, werstling is all about leverage, if you win the leverage battle, then you won the match. Also, American football players make the best wrestlers. Some of the best line backers Michigan State ever had were guys they picked up on the wrestling team. They had to because they had some injuries but it usually works out. Just my thoughts and great job by Iran. BTW I had a very tough time understnading the commentators accent but I really enjoyed the match. From a kohsto and fight fan, thank you for posting the clips. I love ANYTHING that has to do with fighting be it MMA, boxing, koshti, BJJ Mauh Thai whatever it's all good.

:smile: What a jagoff, my abs can't breathe! That was the funniest $hit ever in the history of freestyle wrestling! I am surprised nobody kicked the living crap out of this dude, he pulled that crap, in the Islamic freaking Republic of Iran and lived to tell about it?

Make no mistake, i have wrestling background and i say the Russians would win 7 out of 10 times against americans and even Azarbaijan has a clear shot to win 5 out of 5 times against US because they are still making use of the old and very fine soviet coaching school and training methods. IR is a good wrestling team nowadays but even IR would struggle to win 5 out of 10 times against the Russians. Russians could put together atleast 5 teams that could compete for the first 3 places in world cups. 5 teams with close to no drop in quality from 1 to 5. The Russians are still the best combo of old, fine wrestling technique and power followed closely by Iran. These two are traditional wrestling nations. Americans have the physical tools and they train hard and they never lack will power their conditioning is excellent but they lose big time when it comes to technique. Most american wins in wrestling come through overpowering and outlasting the opponent and not because of technical domination.

Well I agree with you that the Russians have a good team but every time Russia faced Iran recently, Iran dominated Russia. Now if you go back to the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Soviet Union's Wrestling program was top flight.. In fact, in the 50s-80s the Soviet championships were more competitive than the Olympics. I think after the fall of the CCCP, Russia lost that program and of couruse losing all of those countries does not help. I think in one Olympics, Ukraine won 20 medals alone. I think right now Iran has the best wrestling team in the WORLD HANDS DOWN. I have a background in grappling, maybe not koshti but jiu jitsu. I am AMAZED at the Iranians footwork but the reason why I am not totally disagreeing with you is only two teams are good at the RUSSIAN ATTACK.

Russia and Iran make you guess what you going to do next, with your footwork. It is all about making your opponent guess wrong, then attack! The Iranians and Russians are monsters at that. As for Azerbaican they have been hit and miss recently, they did all right this time and placed 3rd but Iran is the top of the class. I would say the American team is decent and probably 2nd right now, slightly ahead of Russia and Azer only because of the resources and facilities USA has. Every major Uni has a wrestling team and most American HS's have a wrestling program. BTW Too bad our didn't, otherwise I would have totally taken Wrestling. We were a football program anyways back to the topic. We can make an argument for who is #2 but I say #1 right now is the IR. I must say though from the 50s-80s nobody could touch the CCCP. When Dan Gable beat the Soviet 72 Olympics, everyone was shocked. Well it was not even close, Dan Gable did not even give up a single point. So back in the day it was considered a SHOCK to beat mighty CCCP but now a days Russia is hit and miss. To me their team is nothing that elite Iran has the elite wrestlers right now. I like your take on wrestling it is good to talk to someone who understand the history of Soviet Wrestling. Here is a hypothetical what if we could time travel and take Iran's best team and put them up against the Soviet teams of the past. I wonder how well would we do? BTW Azerbaijan has good coaching and the Soviet program but again even Russia is not the Old Soviet Union/CCCP wrestling team, those days are GONE. Russia can be good but right now team Iran is the BOSS.

Oh one thing, we effed up in Brazil Olympics but overall Iran has the best team 1-5. Iran could probably send in their B team and still finish in the top 3. For now, the other nations need to catch up to Iran. Who is second well probably it is between Russ and USA, perhaps Azer as well but competition wise, USA has been putting up the better results. Hopefully the Iranian National Wrestling Team will redeem itself, at the next Summer Olympics. Iran still did all right but not by our standards. As for Russia, they will never be the old SU/CCCP, unless something drastic happens because they lost quite a bit of people power and land. They are still a formidable foe I bet you if Russia were there they would at least medal and bump either USA or Azer out.

Iran take this competition too serious. More than Russians and few others and then results in world championship and olympics, 2 by far the most important wrestling tournaments are not as good as this one.

Yes but Iran also dominated the previous world championsips, I believe back to back. We only screwed up in the last Olympics. We sill did all right but not by Iran standards. This is still a good tune up for the Olympics, along with the wrestling championships. I am sure there will be one before the next Olympics all the teams will be fighting for 2nd.
