What a great comeback by Masood Esmaeelpoor. he fell behind by 8-1 against Humphrey but managed to win it by 10-8 in the end. some nifty zir khams by Esmaeelpoor leading to take downs (khak).

Ehsan Lashgari's loss to Foster (5-7) was a typical case of what is called " scoring on counter attack " in football. the bout was at 5-5 and the tie breaker was in favor of Foster so Lashgari kept attacking to get points and was caught by Foster's badal kari and lost 2 points to lose the bout by 5-7.

And what a dominant performance by palang Jooybar Reza Yazdani to beat Begman by 8-0. some fantastic zir yek khams by Yazdani in this bout. :)

Well done to FILA for new rules changes. wrestling has gone back to it's exciting times in the past. lots of action and points exchanged. non of that pushing off the mat stuff or lucky draws to determine the winner.

Those " moche pa " zir khams by Afzali are sweet reminders of Rasool Khadem's " boz kesh " techniques. :)

mashdi how the rules changed can you elaborate it more please ? thanks
here are some of the main ones:

You can't push the opponent off the mat to gain a point.you must try some sort of technique and only then if the opponent is off the mat you get a point or more points depending on your executed technique.

No more silly clinge based on lottery draws.if the bout ends up in a draw then the criteria for the tie-breaker winner is first by the high point technique scored by the wrestlers and second by the last point scored by the wrestlers. no more silly lottery based clinge.

No more excessive defending to shut down your opponent .you get a warning followed by a final caution with a deadline to either score in 30 seconds or else you lose a point to your opponent.

A take down (khak) is awarded 2 points instead of 1 point.and high techniques (such as derakht kan , salto ,fito) are awarded more points than before to give incentives to wrestlers to try those fantastic techniques that pretty much vanished under the old rules.

And TM Iran will go against India in about 90 minutes. a win by Iran and Iran will play in WC Final against most probably Russia in about 8 hours. :)

I simply love Wrestling.

Thanks for the explanation Mashdi Jaan,
Hopefully these changes help bring more fans to the wrestling competitions and ensure wrestling will remain part of Olympics.
by the way, Do you think countries with strong history in wrestling can benefit from these changes more than others?

Definitely. countries with rich history of pioneering wrestling techniques will benefit the most from these rule changes and others should follow to be successful. physical conditioning will still remain a big factor but gholdor bazi to win bouts will be substantially reduced. no more Sumo Wrestling to push your opponent off the mat and win points.

Very technical match. It reminds me of the Wrestling matches of Asgari Mohamadian or Majid Torkan from 20+ years ago. I did not like the recent changes in the rules. It had taken away some techniques from the matches but it is nice to see the changes now and how we are going back to relying more on techniques rather than our strength.

As I understand this is our B team. How about other countries ?
Are they in LA with their A team ( Turkey, US, Russia) ?
How many old olympic or world champions are in this tournament ?

I am very curious to see how they perform against Russia. What ever the result, the come back of Rasul Khadem to the Wrestling world in Iran has been all positive so far.

This is definitely not our B team/ We have several of our world champions and best wrestlers here.

Great to see Yazdani back.

When did India get good enough to beat Turkey??
