For example, they can appear as the victims, something they need more than ever. This also gives them the justification to oppress further internally and execute dissident. Sadly, the execution of Djalali is now a matter of time.

I think the bigger issue is that there are people in the heart of the IR establishment who are working for and reporting to Israel and CIA.
If this guy was as important as they say he was, then why wasn't the regime able to protect him better?
This also proves that IR is just a lot of hot air, lots of threats and empty words, while their top people get picked off as easy as this at the whim of a foreign power.
And yes, this regime is only powerful enough for the defenseless people of Iran. The revenge they are talking about will cause more hardship and tragedy on Iranians. We know this much from experience.
This has also sealed Djalali's fate I am afraid to say. If the poor guy had 1% chance, that just evaporated.
