Iran plane crash: Missile strike and engine failure being explored

It didn't.

Video clearly shows it exploded upon impact with ground. It was certainly burning while in the air, but hadn't structurally disintegrated.

The 2nd video posted by NYT tells me the surface-to-air missile did not explode and only caused a major fire. Either by design or malfunction.


is it normal for anyone to zoom their phone out in the dark in open sky and capture the exact moment
of this alleged hit at 6:20am? that's not my normal routine.


i'd like to question the person who captured this clip and gave it to nyt if it is indeed real and not fake.
that person is clearly a suspect.

if the plane was hit by a missile then it was an intentional terrorist attack with at least 2 terrorists involved.
one that hit the plane and one that was filming at the exact moment.

The national carrier Rwandair has dismissed reports of an engine fire on one of its planes in Tel Aviv, Israel on Wednesday, saying that it was a tailpipe fire –a usually common incident in aviation which is caused by unburnt fuel.

The airline responded to social media reports which claimed that there was a fire engine on its plane B737-800 NG from Tel Aviv to Kigali, saying that it was a small incident which delayed the flight temporarily but it later took off and arrived in Kigali safely.

“There is false information circulating about an “engine fire” on one of our aircraft. WB 503 from Tel Aviv to Kigali yesterday experienced a tailpipe fire while on the ground. This is a common occurrence caused by unburnt fuel in the exhaust nozzle of the engine,”

“The flight was delayed to ensure passenger safety, but left later in the day and arrived safely in Kigali,” the airline said.

Aviation experts say a tailpipe fire is not an engine fire and normally occurs on the ground which happens on the outside of the engine and does not give an indication of a fire in the cockpit.

“When it happens – often a result of unburned fuel on the tailpipe that ignites during engine start – engine is shutdown, fire extinguished/burns out, and engine restarted,” an aviation geek on Twitter @AeroSkippah explained.

Rick Luiz, an American long-haul pilot explained that often people confuse engine tailpipe fire and engine fire.

“A tailpipe fire is just unburned fuel in the exhaust nozzle of the engine igniting and well, catching fire,”

“What sets this apart from an engine fire is that an engine fire is contained within the engine itself, usually from just ahead of the combustion chamber on through to the turbine section including the surrounding accessory gearbox and components,” he explained.

He said tailpipe fires are put out by the engine’s fire extinguishing system through chemical agent sprayed into the affected engine after shutting the fuel supply, hydraulic, pneumatic and electric components off.

He said Tailpipe fires happen at the exhaust nozzle and are thus unaffected by discharging the extinguishing agents.

“The non-normal procedure calls for shutting the fuel to the engine and to continue motoring the engine until the fire consumes the pooled fuel and burns itself out. The procedure is very straightforward,”

“What would cause this fire in the first place? A faulty fuel control unit/ignition system are the usual culprits, but the important thing to remember is, if you see this out your window, remain calm…the fire should be out in under a minute,” he explained further.

Rick Ruiz is originally from Miami, Florida in the U.S. He is an international Boeing 747 pilot with the world’s largest operator of that aircraft type flying to destinations all over the world.

According to a blog about his aviation experience, he previously flew the Boeing 767 and then 777 and boasts of huge experience as an airline pilot specializing in long-haul flights.

The maiden direct flight of national carrier RwandAir from Kigali to Tel Aviv, Israel’s economic and technology hub, took off on Monday night.

Rwandair launched direct flights to Tel Aviv in June last year, making it the 29th destination for the national carrier. Rwandair operates the Tel Aviv route three times a week using the Boeing 737-800NG.

موشک‌های پدافند هوایی برای بی‌اثر کردن مانورهای جنگنده‌ها برای فرار از موشک‌ها، منتظر برخورد با هدف نمی‌مانند بلکه در نزدیکی هدف منفجر می‌شوند و با پرتابه‌های شاتگان مانند،هدف را منهدم می‌کنند. سرش هم جدا میشه و بدنه‌ش قسمت مخربشه. اصلا حرفی درش نیست, این مادر قحبه های بیمار این هواپیما رو با موشک زدن, اصلا نمیدونم چطور مردم طرف احتمالات دیگه میرن وقتی ویدئوش هست که چطور یک موشک به هواپیما نزدیک میشه و بهش برخورد میکنه. الان دو روز هم هست که دارن با بولدوزر و لودر محل رو پاکسازی میکنن. سوراخ های تو بدنه درست نشون دهنده ترکش هایی هست که شاتگان مانند به هواپیما برخورد کردن.

To me, the question is not whether this was hit by a ground-to-air missile, but whether this was intentional or accidental.

737 is the plane i trust the most whenever i fly. When i have to chose between airbus, any other boeing and the 737, i always chose the 737

خوب این موشک مثلا اونجا چیکار میکنه؟ طوری هم که منفجر شده, دقیقا مثل توضیحاتیست که در مورد این نوع از موشک های زمین به هوا داده شده. اینها اصلا لزومی نداره به هواپیما اصابت کنن, اینا وقتی به هواپیما نزدیک میشن, بدنشون میترکه و با ترکش هاشون مثل شاتگان هواپیما رو سوراخ سوراخ میکنن. کاربردش بسیار بیشتر از موشک های قدیمیه که برخورد به هواپیما الزامی بود چون اینا در بسیاری از موارد از کنار بسیاری از جنگنده های مدرن با سرعت بالا رد میشدن و بهشون اصابت نمیکردن. اینا ولی اصلا منتظر اصابت نمیموننن, وقتی تا حد لازم به هدف نزدیک بشه منفجر میشه.

Personally my opinion is:
A) They did NOT hit it and it was a genuine mechanical failure. Guys keep something in mind, Boeing is under HEAVY pressure with their 737 MAX being grounded, if the news got out that 737-800 is also having problem, this could cause the company Millions if not Billions of dollars. What I find interesting is, back few years ago when Russians brought down the Malaysian Airline over Ukraine, it took them about 5 days to say it was missile, with Iran, US announced less than 24 hours? Also they keep saying it was NOT intentional, how do they know this? Also, if you guys remember, when US hit the IranAir plane over Bandar Abbas, everyone was DESTROYED, very little of the plane was left. (however this could be a different missile so that doesnt tell us much)

B)They did hit it with missile and are 110% sure they have covered ALL the evidence. This is a HUGE risk, the leader of Sepah and Aviation denied the fact they hit it again today, saying we have nothing to hide, come and look. they even posted the pictures of BOTH blackBoxes (1 damaged and 1 is not) saying we are going to look at it bla bla. This is a HUGE risk for the regime, if they were not sure, they would not do it.

Bottom line is, so many rumours, very hard to believe anything.

Bingo! Finally one person got it. It was a terrorist missile or jammed the missile battery by making them believe that it was enemy plane.

No dictatorship regime accepts anything. I think you have lived in a civilised country for too long.
Baba, they say that 270 people died in their attacks and Americans took the bodies to a Baqdad hospital and Israel. They say that in the public TV and web-site.
And you think that they come and say they hit a plane by accident. I am speechless.

در تفکرات خمینیستی, کفایت و مسولیت جایی نداره. تو مطمئن باش پشت این موشک ها بیکفایت ها و بی لیاقت ها نشتن که کارشون رو بلد نیستند, مطمئن باش ۴ تا لات بی سر و پا بدون تمرینات و تعلیمات لازم نشستن. فکرشو بکن یه لات بی سر و پا که هیچ ارزشی واسه زندگیه دیگرون قائل نیست و در سیستم ولایت منشان مسولیت هیچ عملکردی رو هم مجبور نیست قبول کنه (و اون مملکت پره از این نوع حیوانات) نشسته و چون بر اساس روابط به اونجا رسیده نه از رو ضوابط, کارش رو هم درست بلد نیست. اینا جک نیستا, اون مملکت داره ۴۰ ساله به دست همین جور جونور ها اداره میشه. طرف ریده به خودش, فکر کرده آمریکایی ها جواب دادن و دارن حمله میکنن, دکمه رو فشار داده. حالا اینکه تو رادار مشخصه که این هواپیماست نه موشک, و اینکه اون رادار ها حتی فرق بین هواپیمای جنگی و مسافر بری رو هم نشون میدن, از رو ترس و استرس به اونجا دیگه نرسیده. ببین تو اون مملکت به هیچی اعتماد نکن. طبق قانون بین المللی در چنین موقعیت هایی وقتی دوتا کشور دارن به هم حمله میکنن, سازمان های هوا فضا بلافاصله تمام پرواز های مسافربری رو لغو میکنن. حالا چون سازمان هوا فضا جمهوری اسلامی هم دست همین بیلیاقت ها و لات های ولایت منشه, اونا هم کارشون رو درست انجام ندادن و اجازه پرواز به این هواپیما دادن. مملکت تو یک لجنزار دروغ, بی لیاقتی, بی کفایتی و بیمسولیتی به سر میبره. اینا هم چون هیچ کاره دیگری از دستشون بر نمیاد و هیچ موضوع فنی, اجتماعی, اقتصادی, انسانی, اداری, سیاسی...رو نه میتونن مدیریت کنن, نه اداره کنن, واصل به تنها چیزی میشن که اجدادشون ۵۰۰ ساله توش مهارت دارن, اونم دروغ و وقاحته. الانم اومدن میگن مردم بنزین قاچاقی بردن تو هواپیما چون تو ایران ارزون تر از تو اکراینه واسه همین هواپیما منفجر شده!!! ببین این فرقه, همونطور که گفتم, بگه شبه, من چشم بسته یقین دارم که روزه.

واقیعت این است که این قشری که الان ۴۰ ساله تو ایران وزیر و رهبر و رییس و قاضی و دادستان و سردار و ژنرال شدن, در یک کشور نرمال و قانونمند و با حساب کتاب که نخبه ها و کار بلد ها پست میگیرن نه یه مشت اشغال بیسواد و آدم کش و دروغ گو و چاقوکش علی اللهی, اینا یه سریشون که به عنوان قاتل و جانی و قاچاقچی تو زندان میبودن, یه سریشون هم به گدایی میوفتاادن و باید از مزایای سوسیال اون کشور استفاده میکردن که از گشنگی و سرمای زمستون نمیرن. این قشر بی استعداد, عقب افتاده و خرافاتی ولی تو ایران همه کاره هست. اینها واقیعت های گریه داره اون مملکته.
