Iranian club Saba beat Al Wahda to reach final

Dubai: American duo Waiteri Marsh and Lorenzo Hall led Saba of Iran to qualify for the final of the Hamdan Bin Rashid International Basketball Tournament after defeating Al Wahda of Syria 86-70 in the semifinal match held last night at the Al Nasr club Rashid bin Hamdan indoor.
Saba will meet today in the final Al Riyadhy of Lebanon who beat Al Ittihad of Syria in the second semifinal held late last night.

Lorenzo and Marsh along with Ali Redha and Hamid Islami were outstanding in the Iranian victory.

They showed an excellent display and were behind the supremacy of the Iranians during the match. Al Wahda led 7-1 in the first quarter. However the Saba players recovered quickly and led 17-9 with tremendous efforts from Hall and Marsh and they finished winners 20-14.

Saba kept a five-point gap between them and Al Wahda, who tried to equalise through Americans Wood and Washington with Sherrif and Henawi, but their efforts were in vain with the Saba showing their best form so far. Saba advanced to win the second quarter 39-34.

Al Wahda stormed back in the third quarter.

They advanced 43-39 but Saba recovered their dominance with tough defence under their basket to win it by a 14-point (67-53).

They dominated the match with Al Wahda defence wide open in front of them until they finished winners 86-70.

Saba scorers: Ali Redh 21, Islami 19, Hall 16, Marsh 13, Saman 7, Edine and Jamshidfand each three, Camran and Jaber each two points.

Al Wahda scorers: Wood 26, Washington 15, Sherrif 12, Basil 8, Henawi 5, Hussaino and Karkookly each two.

Today's matches: At 6 pm third place play off. At 8 pm final.
