Serie A: Roma 3 – 2 Messina
Milan slipped for the second consecutive week seeing Juventus increasing their lead at top of the table after winning against Atalanta, while Messina was 45 minutes away from re-living their success from the second game day of the season against Roma.

The Sicilian’s traveled to the capital city this weekend facing Roma at Stadio Olimpico.
Messina started the game with good determination and it would proof to payoff early on. Zampagna, the hero from the first clash between these two sides opened the scoring with a great effort in the twelfth minute, volleying it behind Zotti who replaced Pelizzoli in goal as he has in recent games shown bad form.

However the trusted shot-stopper of this afternoon was not to leave the game in any better fashion as he left his net wide open for Parisi to shoot from long range into the net. 30 minutes played, the visitors were two goals up.

Minutes after the goal Roma went on attack, Montella had set his aim on the Messina goal, but was stopped by Rahman Rezaei who went in on a shoulder-on-shoulder clash and put Montella out of his course.

Messina has in previous games shown a tendency to perform well during the first 45 minutes just to fallow it up with a devastating performance on the remaining 45. Facing Roma with their “tridente”; Montella, Cassano and Totti you can’t afford losing determination.

With Panucci and Mancini coming in for Roma after the halftime break the home side started to control the happenings. They got one back after 55 minutes through Totti. Roma kept the pressure and five minutes later the equalizer came through Cassano.

Roma was aiming to collect all three points from the showdown, but Storari stood well against the home side’s efforts. After a constant Roma pressure the visitors broke free and went on a counter attack. Donati fired the ball behind the net, however the goal was disallowed as Messina striker Amoruso was ruled having fouled Roma defender Mexès.

The third goal was however to be registered, for the home side. Mancini had a great solo effort as he dribbled past several Messina players inside the box to eventually finish it behind Storari.

Eye on Rahman Rezaei

He had a very good first half, but in the second they all failed to keep hold on Roma's attack. Roma pushed Messina back and was successfull opening up Messina's defence...

if I remember correctly, then I can tell you he wasn't among the players
Mancini dribbled passed. I think he went on marking Montella, as Mancini went
in and did his magic, Rezaei ran back and made a sliding tackle to reach the ball... But it wasn't any close being saved... it was a week ago, don't know if I remember all the details... ;)

But Messina has to improve closing the spaces.
The scenario many times is that a defender leaves his position to backup a colleague and the area is all exposed.

like the case in the game against Milan, Milan comes in on a counter
attack. They have a mark on the ball holder, Rezaei catches up with
Tomasson, as they get real close to the goal he leaves his mark trying to
backup his team-mate and then the pass comes, Tomasson unmarked gets it
and goal.

ps. Rezaei will not be able to take part in todays game.
He is suspended.
