How exactly did he fuck the first US president to broker a deal to restore diplomatic ties between Washington and Havana for the first time since they were severed in 1961.

Obama today: “History will record and judge the enormous impact of this singular figure on the people and world around him.”

Trump today: The US president-elect, Donald Trump, referred to Castro as a “brutal dictator” who had oppressed his people for nearly six decades.

“Fidel Castro’s legacy is one of firing squads, theft, unimaginable suffering, poverty and the denial of fundamental human rights,”

How can you survive 638 assassinations if 630 of them are not sham?

I think what we learnt since Castro's death is that it is ok to torture and kill people, as long as you are a leftist.

Then you are a revolutionary hero!

The hell with Castro, and that other racist homophobic murderer Che Guevara. I hope the both of them burn in hell.

It is unfair to judge anyone as pure black and white. Was he a dictator? yes. Did he get rid of another dictator to take control of Cuba? yes. Did he have a role in Cuba's high level education and free health? also yes. Just taking one aspect and ignore the rest is not really fair. One can also have the same argument that Reza Shah was a great or terrible person by stating his positives and negatives. I am not Cuban, have not deeply studied about Cuba and don't know many of them so cannot really judge the guy. On the surface it seems he had noble intentions but like all other revolutionaries once he gained power he could not let go.

I would say Cuba is like a 3rd home to me. Visited it many times (not just the resorts) and have made dozens of friends there over the years.

Castro's legacy is exactly what Trump called it. A legacy of neglect and betrayal. He allowed the US government to fuck up his country and 3 generations of his people by playing a stupid game. Sure he gained fame and had noble ideas, but so what? 12 million people live in absolute poverty because of him. What was the gain?

You wanna know what Castro did, go to Cuba and spend a week with a typical rural family. Then see if you really think of him as a hero. He was definitely heroic in overthrowing the Batista regime, but the ultimate price he forced upon his nation was insanely disproportionate to any gains he might be credited with.

Castro knowingly destroyed many lives. This is not history. It's happening right now and will continue to happen in Cuba for the foreseeable future.

You can add around 1.5 millions Cubans who were lucky enough to skip this disaster and live in Miami...

At the end of the day, every leader is judged as an overall package. He managed to do something right, but in the process, he fucked up royally along the way. The scale by which he is going to be measured tips heavily on the negative end of the spectrum. Liberals have this romantic idea of Castro, yet, if they were the ones forced to live in Cuba under Castro, they would have been the first to bail out.

Castro can not be analyzed in vacuum.
He replaced Batista which was a terrible guy. more over he actually wanted to be friendly with the U.S.
but the U.S was not happy with any thing but total capitulation on his part.

Compare to other Latin American leaders of 1950-1960s he was not that bad of a dude. but once you start factoring in the fact that he was not even willing to share power with people like Che then he starts diminishing.

But you have to give him his due, if he was as bad as the U.S said he was; why are there so many in that country that still like him.

To Me Cuba should have become "Democracy" way before Mexico. and the fact that it hasn't opened up is mostly due to U.S isolation policy.
