for more than 30 years iran has been trail blazing in taking in refugees and giving them a
new life without any fanfare but with recent anti-refugee frenzy around the world the un
comes out with it's report and reminds the world on how refugees are treated in the more
civilized parts of the world.

UN Praises Iran's "Exemplary" Leadership in Hosting Refugees

The United Nations praised Iran's "exemplary" refugee resettlement program this week, saying the country's decades-long effort to house approximately 3 million displaced Afghans was "a story that's not told often enough."

Sivanka Dhanapala, head of the office for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees in Tehran, made the remarks on the same day that President Donald Trump sought to reinstate a controversial 90-day ban on travelers from six majority-Muslim countries, including Iran, and a 120-day ban on all refugees. The new executive order was blocked from going into effect by two courts.

Roughly 6 million people were displaced from Afghanistan to neighboring countries amid the Soviet War in 1979. Nearly 40 years later, Tehran still shelters 1 million registered refugees, and another 2 million are thought to be living there, making it the world's fourth-largest refugee population.

Could Iran Emerge as the Middle East Superpower?

Doreen Horschig
April 17, 2017

With the Trump administration’s nationalistic sentiment of “America First” and a reduction of global political leverage, the world’s hegemony steps back. As a result, the international system is shifting to multipolarity of dominant regional superpowers.

The U.S. is the leader in the Americas, China in East Asia, Russia in Northern Asia, and the combination of France, Germany, and Britain in Europe.

But who leads the Middle East? Currently, Iran is in a power struggle with Turkey and Saudi Arabia for the top spot.

In recent years, Iran has received increased attention from global powers in part due to the 2015 nuclear Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran’s claim of having one of the most advanced and diversified economies in the MENA region, and its considerable advances and investment in science and technology.

Here are three reasons why Iran will join the regional superpowers’ club:

very interesting article in the jp today.looks like they
are finally getting the picture of what the u.s. is cooking
for the semite cousins in the middle east.

Oren said a surprisingly large number of Arab leaders and opinion-makers believe that Iran’s rapidly growing footprint in the region is the result of an explicit US-Iranian alliance.

“I don’t believe it, but they do,” he said. “What do they cite? It begins with [former president George W.] Bush, who took down Saddam Hussein and the Taliban, who were the major checks on Iranian expansion and their two primary enemies. It continues with Obama and the nuclear deal, and his refusal to intervene to take down [Syrian President Bashar] Assad, allowing the Russians to come in and strengthen the Iranian position in Syria.”

And now, he said, the argument is that this trend is continuing with US President Donald Trump and “recent attempts to reach a cease-fire in Syria that will leave all the Iranian interests there in place.”

This is a “compelling argument,” he said, and one that is “difficult to refute.”

But why in the world, Oren was asked, would the US want to cooperate with a fundamentalist theocratic regime like Iran, which has been its sworn enemy since the revolution there in 1979?

Oren, who served as ambassador to the US from 2009 to 2013, said that the year before he took that job, he was on a sabbatical at Georgetown University in Washington. During that period he had a great deal of contact with former State Department people.

“They proffered a thesis that I thought was remarkable and astonishing,” he said. “The thesis went like this: The US had traditionally backed two horses in the Middle East – the Sunni horse and the Israeli horse. The Sunni horse took down the Twin Towers in 9/11 and then gobbled up a trillion dollars of US military money. The Israeli horse built settlements, spit in America’s eye and poisoned America’s relationship with the Muslim world, in return for tens of billions of dollars of aid.”

But there was a “third horse,” in the Mideast, Oren said of Iran. And, he continued, there were those in the State Department who thought it was an “able, ascendant and kind of democratic horse” that the US should be backing.

“I actually heard this,” he said. “The first time I heard it, I about fell off my chair and said that no one can actually believe this. But when you get deeper into the Obama years, you began to hear the president himself talk about an Iran that can be a responsible regional actor, an Iran that can help bridge the gap between Sunnis and Shi’a. And then you learn retroactively that Obama began contacts with Iran’s regime in his first week in office, and you have a hard time gainsaying that thesis.”

the semites are in a lot of pain since iran and it's allies defeated them
and their animals in isis over in iraq & syria.the pain keeps growing and
they are becoming increasingly irrational in their words and actions.you
can see that in the recent pronouncements by king nut of isreal and his
cousin the baby king in arabia.
the latest sign of the enmity of semties towards iranians came from an
expected source the semite socialogist bernad levy.he calimed that hitelr
ordered reza shah of iran to change the name of the country from persia
to iran inline with his racial doctrine.
this should be a wake up call for the naive iranians who think the semites
are only against the 'islamic republic'.in fact this episode shows that they
are truly anti-iran and iranian.the can not even live with the name of iran.
moreover, their ultimate wet dream is the destruction of iran and iranians.
the roodast guy explains it all very vividly for the naive and the uninitiated.

iran's allies urinated on the semitic-axis-of-evil in isreal & saudi
in the lebanon elections yesterday.it's now clear that they can not
win against the iranian alliance either militarily or at the ballot box
which is why they are so mad and foaming at the mouth with their
anti-iranian rants.
next win for iranian alliance coming up in the iraqi elections.

Iran-backed Hezbollah predicted to win more than half the seats in Lebanon's first parliamentary election in nine years

The Iran-backed Hezbollah and its political allies has won more than half the seats in Lebanon's first parliamentary election in nine years, according to unofficial preliminary results.

The result, if confirmed by the final count, would boost Hezbollah politically, and further reflects Iran's increasing political influence in the area.

Voter turnout was just 49.2 per cent, down from 54 percent the last time legislative elections were held in 2009.
