Question on ADSL in Iran.

Back in early 2008, the offered speed was in the range of 128 to 512 Kbps. I don't think that has increased since, because I think it was capped officially. The price was ridiculously high too. Something like 24000 tomans ($30 CAD) a month for 128 Kbps.

Hmm.. 512k is still pretty good, a lot of places even don't have that!

Does anyone know if wireless Internet or wimax is available in Iran and roughly how much it costs for CPE and monthly and any setup costs? GB allowance?
Is it contract based like 12/24 months like other places?

At 72000 tomans ($90)/Month? That's the hugest rip off I have heard. And other than Africa, I don't think there is any place without a decent DSL service these days.

Man that's just stupid.

In contrast, Canada (Cheapest Internet on earth) offers 10mbs for $49.99/month(that's regular price. You get some crazy specials on that like $29.99 for 1 year!)

It's also funny if you have an iPhone or iPod-touch you can pretty much park beside any building and surf for free(everyone has wireless here)

No, it's toman..so 1.5Mb/s is 55,000 toman per month.
I don't think so. The rate on the other site was 520,000 tomans a month. I think the one you posted was also 550,000 tomans a month, not 55,000 tomans. There can't possibly be a 1000% difference in prices between two companies!

Thank you guys. I had seen the webpages, the prices seemed high for low speeds. I thought we have members from Iran who use the services (where is Mr. Thick?). My relatives are still on dial-up :)

Baba let me tell you:

i have a 256 kb/s = its US$ 40 per month (discounted price and without modem)
512 kb/s = is not cheaper than US$ 80 anywhere in Iran...there is a US$ 20 version you can get but with like 2gb cap which is just retarded. In general 512 kb/s is costing US$ 170 per month....1 mb/s and above sky rockets at more than US$ 300 per month.

This is what we pay in UK.

8Mbts from free to £7.50 ,,$11 USD
16Mbts from £9 to £ 14

I pay £9 for a 16Mbts with unlimited download .

Thank you so much. I am contemplating with taking a year of sabbatical and spend it in Iran. However, I will need daily access to the Internet. I am afraid the low speed would drastically lengthen the amount of time spent on the computer. Btw, what do you mean with no modem? Do you have to buy it separately? What kind of modems are we talking about?

Yeah you either buy it separately or from the provider or rent it from the provider....best option is to buy yourself...it costs between US$ 40-100+....a basic dlink adsl2+ router will do the trick.

BTW, you also have to check the telephone no you will be using is adsl ready via your local communication centre...so get the tel no. and check on the websites i gave you to see if they are active in that area.
