With all recent discussions going on and the several uprisings in Iran that so far have been put down by violence of the Islamic republic's multi-layered security apparatus, it is not difficult to see the yearning of the Iranian people for justice, freedom and equality. A yearning of nearly two centuries so far has been either quashed or derailed. But it cannot be denied forever. If you were voting in a free referendum, which form of governance would you choose for Iran. Feel free to elaborate and discuss and remember to discuss the ideas brought forward, not the people that bring them. Play the ball, not the player! The choices are:

1. Islamic republic, as in its current form, reformed or another one, but a rule under Islamic laws.
2. Socialist republic, as inspired by the left movement
3. Federal republic as in U.S, France, etc.
4. Constitutional Monarchy, where a prime minister and government is elected by the people. This could be of Reza Pahlavi or another person.
5. Absolute monarchy, where the monarch rules with dictatorship. This was added because some seemed to think in other discussions that Iran needs a dictator!
6. Rule of a council elected by people for a term.
7. Other forms that you will explain.
8. You're simply not sure.

You will be able to change your vote possibly as a result of the discussions.

ut I have to correct you aziz. I am a US military veteran but USA is anything BUT free. Like Russia, USA is a Federal Republic where elitists and special interest lobbyists run the country. Now USA like Russia is an egalitarian society where a wealthy 1% control 39% of the nation's wealth. Noam Chomsky wrote a good book on this, Who Rules America.

I would call USA a lot of things I know the words "Land of the Free" are in our anthem, you mean the land where we slaughtered millions of native Americans by giving them polio and other diseases? Also it's not Land of the free or the home of the brave, it's land of the free because of the brave.

Here is my vote 7 other-Direct Western Democracy, like what you have in Western Europe. France is also Republic like USA but they are a more true democracy. Set it up so you can have multiple parties, not a two party system Republicans and Democrats dominate.

BTW I know others mentioned it I don't think Iranians are ready for a Socialist system like they have in Scandinavia, despite that being democratic socialism. They are tired of any Islamic or dictator style governments be it monarchy etc. I think they are ready psychologically for a direct democracy/

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that.. you can not be independent nowdays. We are few hundred years late to the game. Even this regime is opposite of what it claims.. where in the world a new leader just lands in from a plane?

what the fuck is council elected by people ?
like how they ran villages in Europe 800 years ago.

baba joon a republic is republic, what is pure republic, socialistic republic ???

a republic can change colors a little bit based on what party is currently in power. but the fundamentals of a republic is the same

TeamMeli, thank you for the correction, unfortunately I couldn't change it in the choices, but corrected "Free" to "Federal" republic in the explanation.

If any one votes for "Other" choice, it would be helpful to explain it too!

And it would be nice if members refrain from using profanity in a discussion! Iran is a country of over 75 million people and likely there are people in it with opposing views, they cannot be coerced into adopting our ideas by belittling their ideas and use of profanity. If you have a compelling argument for something, please make it, otherwise it's no use attacking another's choice! We already have a government that is very good at that!

By elected council, an idea that was brought up in another discussion apparently for something that is used in Scandinavian countries(?), is meant instead of electing ONE president or prime minister, a number of individuals from 3 to any odd number can be elected to a leadership council that must agree on decision makings. As the number is odd, there will likely not be any ties. They will consult with the parliament or can also conduct referendums on very important issues. I personally like this idea, but we may be decades away from it yet.

I also like a proper constitutional monarchy since Iran has a long history and heritage in it with some great kings in its past.

Federal republic is also good, however the election is often between very rich individuals who can campaign to get a nomination, so not sure...

Other than US, Russia, China, Germany and France show me a country that has own military and is also independent then we can copy after them.

I'd wish Iranians understood socialism better. Hezb toodeh is closet thing they know and that's the farthest thing.

Am I hearing it correcting in ahvaz protest? 'ye engelab kam beseh moshkele ma hal mishe'

^Great but loosely speaking..
we are 200 renaissance years away from most of those European countries, and countries such as Mexico and Japan are really backyards of US I tend to believe.
Especially Mexico, corruption with color of democracy.

Canada and Australia are really sateilites of US and their alignment with US is vivid, yes they may not put as much $ or control in US's pocket direct but I think they make US happy at the end.

Also exclude Israel as they're a superpower with all the $ the drain from US and where they're at military-wise.

THis really leaves no country for a quick aim and achieve in 50 years .. back to my point but incremental improvement.

Please don't label my a pro IR am just being realistic, am for an overhaul myself.

^FINE example I will go with that without much knowledge of their case.Probably a closer case to us as like us there were under control of British for the longest time and I doubt that has completely been erased.

They're a force to be reckon with. Now we have to look as see how India got here if they are a true model to copy after.

They also have very close ties with Israel these days.

But why do we have to have a model to copy after? Why not just do what your logic think is right and let others copy after you?

The idea is aim for a functional system, something acceptable and in play .. something you can show the next person and not on paper. once in play it's your own due to various factors, definitely not 100% clone. Idea here is realistically what can we desire for and time is an issue to implement.. All this talk is just wishes and hopes for short term imo. Things will improve so slow under current system but truly is almost a non-factor.

But why do we have to have a model to copy after? Why not just do what your logic think is right and let others copy after you?

I also agree with the idea of originality and creating something that fits Iran and Iranians. All these sufferings will not in vain if the lessons learnt are put to practical use. Perchance it will become something so wonderful that the world will emulate.

It's no use subscribing to the notion that these are just some random talks and wishful thinking and so on. It's no use feeling powerless and insignificant. The power of the mind in infinite. And we can never know how and how many people may be transformed through these discussions. If the heart is pure and the intent is the discovery of the truth anything and everything can happen.

The power of our minds can influence and change the world. All things start from thoughts, then translate into words, and then into actions. If the thought is good and pure, so too will be the action. "The betterment of the world can be accomplished through pure and goodly deeds, through commendable and seemly conduct."

Actually that's all rhetoric and easily achieved by any group (ask IR, yea we all are united) and if not can easily be blamed on a group of ppl.

Which Is exactly ? قانون .. relationship among various groups? which law? Granted the relationship of various group is important but they get voted out of the office by people if something is fishy with one group. These groups could be very opposing and from that progress takes place. Now a set of standard (such as skipping mojahedin/terrorists and not having ties with foreign powers) is all thats needed.
