The European Super League and the end of the Champions League could be closer than ever. There is already agreement between 16 major European football teams to create the former starting in 2021, that would end the latter competition as we know it.
According to Football Leaks, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Chelsea, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Liverpool and Milan, as founding teams, and Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Marseille, Inter and Roma, as guests, would be the clubs that would form part of this new competition.
Those 16 have signed the agreement and are willing to leave the Champions League and enter a new sporting adventure, which will change the European footballing landscape forever.
The format of the competition would have two phases, a first preliminary in which teams would be integrated into different groups, and a subsequent round of eliminations.
In addition, there would be the option that this European Super League will have a second division in which the best qualified would have options to be promoted.
The creation of this competition would have important economic consequences, since it would break the competitive balance of the national leagues.
Clubs that participate in this new competition would earn more money than the rest, making the differences between other teams in each country even greater.
Everything is ready
If UEFA doesn't react to the latest scandal, the big teams have everything ready to go.
They want PSG and Manchester City to compete on equal terms with other teams, something they don't do now, as Football Leaks have revealed.
Clubs belonging to the new European Super League would automatically be separated from UEFA and would no longer belong to them.
A new order is coming
