Tactical Weaknesses

Apart from having a decent coach, the #1 reason for our TM's dissapointing results is a number of tactical deficiencies.

1) SET PIECES- Perhaps the most important of our tactical weaknesses, this is an area that we have always had problems in, especially on corners. Our players lose their marks way too easily, and even when they manage to hold on to them, they stand and look at the flight of the ball, instead of trying to position themselves between the ball and their marks.

The irony in all of this is that offensively, we actually do really well in getting open and getting a chance on goal, especially off of corner kicks.

2) ONE TRACK ATTACKING- If you haven't noticed by now, we love building our attacks from the wings, and we actually have gotten pretty good at it. The problem is, this strenght becomes apparent to the opposing team also, and they end up blocking our attacks by denying us the ball on the wings in their own 30. We seem to not notice and still press to attack from the sides, leading to turnovers and counterattacks (as our R and L backs have come up to participate in the attack).

We not only need a plan B, but we need to learn how to put it into action efficiently.

3) LACK OF SHOOTING- Our team eventually realized a need to attack in another way other than crosses, and we end up working the ball up the sidelines, and then into the middle towards the top of the apponents box. But once in this position, our players become lost. There have been countless opportunities to shoot or to set up a long range shot (especially for the player who cuts the ball from the wing towards the top of the box), but all we end up doing is either an attempt to chip the defense, or send a throughball into a crowded box. This usually ends up in an offsides or the ball gets cleared.

Khalatbari's pass to set up Shojaei was an exception to the rule, and it would be nice to see our players attempt shots or set up teammated more often when in this position.

There are four parts to any football game:

1-Tactical, as you rightful mentioned
2-Technical
3-Physical
4-Mental

In order to win a football game you have to master or at least try to reach your best at ALL of the above. Unfortunately Iranian coaches don't understand and have no clue about the Mental aspect of the game; thus with some of the most talented footballers in Asia, Iran normally performs poorly in its games against mediocre teams like S.A. and U.A.E.
Iran can easily win its remaining three games if and only if they can have someone as a coach with knowledge of ALL these four parts.

What we lack is a GOD DAMN PLAYMAKER..

1) Our defense is to slow, even for Asian standards. I love Hosseini, the man needs speed. So we will struggle with counterattacking teams, and specially with teams that have quick flanks. I am not so worried about the center, more on the right and left flanks. Team's will find it hard to go through Hosseini in the center and that's why against UAE away, and even S.Korea and Saudi Arabia at home we saw them pushing more and more towards the flanks where we are beatable.

2) We miss Karimi, simple, we do, we do not have any one to distribute the ball, to control the ball in midfield, ( Yes Nekounam does his bit ) but we need Karimi.
We saw against Senegal our midfield was dead for christ sake, we had noone to even STEP up and be the playmaker.

3) Our strenght used to lie in our flanks ( Mahdavikia & Kaebi once created the strongest right side i have ever seen in Asia ) they are deplated and far gone from their best. We are struggling to find a decent right midfielder, and a decent left midfielder. Even though i love Madanchi and think he should be starting.
The guy is undoubtely Iran's best left midfielder and against Senegal he ran up and down, up and down and his workrate and speed is rare in Iran.

4) Team Melli lacks common sense, simple as DOG SHIT, we lack common sense.
We would of had a goal if Khalatbari passed the ball to Rezaei against Senegal, we wouldnt of conceded the 2-1 goal against Saudi Arabia if we had put a man like we should on each post, We would of beaten UAE away if Rezaei pulled the trigger instead of trying to get the referee to give him a penalty, HEADLESS fucking chicken he is.

5)Mentally we are fucked up, should we take a few lessons from our neighbor's Turkey i say, Enough said, why do we give up so easily. Team Melli acts like getting 1 goal behind its the end of the World. And even when we get that 1 goal, we go so deep into our own ground all our players are smelling Rahmati's fucking ass. We give up to easily, we have no morale and self confidence in ourselves what so ever that we actually let Saudi Arabia or North Korea think they are decent "soccer nations"
Hell, we made UAE feel like Brazil for a night.

6) LACK OF SHOOTING HAHAHAHA, Dude, we need to learn how to shoot first before we try to have another shot.
Our shots are pathetic...I cant count higher then 1 shot from distance A GAME actually hitting their goal..
You make it sound like we have Roberto Carlos in our team but he doesn't shoot, Nah mate, we have 9 ( excluding Nekounam )
Kaka wannabes who think they can score from 50 yards out. Stay away from shooting, its embarrassing...
Professionals who cant even hit the fucking target..ill give you an example, Shojaei against S.Korea early early in the game.
GOD KNOWS how he did not score that one, no pressure, a simple chip over the goalkeeper would of done the trick.

We lack the simplest of things in soccer, the basics..
And when Ruttemoller says we concede easy goals i say, DAMN STRAIGHT we do.
Since when did other teams EASILY score on us on set pieces?

We are copping it against Senegal, North Korea and Saudi Arabia all on simple, headers.
Its pathetic..
Our defenders with all their strenght and physique is letting their guard down easier then a slut in Melbournes St.Kilda street.
