I think you are obsessed with skin color.
Did you read my previous posts when I said WHO IN THE HELL CARES ABOUT BEING ARYAN IN THE 21ST CENTURY or did you just omit that part? I thought about what you said and what others have said to me. Personally, I could give TWO SHITS about race, be a good human being that is all I care about. I served in the military with blacks, Mexicans, people from the Near East, Asians etc and I call all of them my brothers and sisters. In war, we all bleed read my friend. I hope that clears things up and I am not obsessed with race. I am obsessed with history and I enjoy discussing genealogy but I am not a rednecks dude. I had to have the same conversation with my mom and she finally got it. Did I ever say White Power? In 50 years this bullshit won't matter because we are going to be all mixed in, there won't even be white or black, it will be just different shades of tan or brown. You will have some light skinned brown and dark skin brown. The average girl is probably going to have curly hair and olive skin.

Actually the purpose is not to discriminate, many universities offer scholarships to minority and have affirmative action. They want to pin point your race to see if you qualify or not, the problem with it is only CERTAIN minorities usually get these scholarships, mostly blacks and Mexican Americans. If you are Asian or from the Near East, you are not getting the scholarship or affirmative action. It's all politics man.
Wait, but how would they know what race you are to give you or not to give you scholarship if the option didn't exist in the application?

Sweden is a highly liberal, democratic and relatively fair country! It's because the people living here have homogeneously the same mentality! I know the same goes to Canada! Nothing about it is only in theory, in lala land or the acceleration of a car! We're living it here and now! The same way, tolerance and talks were happening between the US and Iran in Obama's administration! Never before did a president of Iran talked in the phone with the president of the US. Never before, American and Iranian foreign ministers (after the revolution) sat down at the same table holding meetings or making phone calls to each other to solve various related problems. Never before Iran's high ranked politician (after the revolution) shook the hands of an American president and talked to him. and I'm not even gonna get into the deal. Things were happening right there and then and if it continued it would slowly gain the trust of the extremists on both sides. Once in a while people like Trump or Ahmadinejad come along and f*ck up a perfectly developing relationship! It's as simple as that!
You're so naive.

Sweden is NOT a liberal and fair country. Sweden is a socialist country.

Sweden is where individuality and true liberalism go to die. The average US citizen would have a very miserable life in Sweden.

Don't compare the US with Sweden. The individuality, freedom and possibilities available to an American-born child are vastly superior to that of a Swedish one.

Also don't forget, America is a world-power with ambitions that a country like Sweden would never even think about. Every American is raised with that identity.

As we act in the continuing narrative of Stranger Things, we … will repel bullies, we will shelter freaks and outcasts, those who have no home, we will get past the lies, we will hunt monsters.......... and we will punch them fuckers in the face.
And when we are at a loss amidst the hypocrisy and the casual violence of certain individuals and institutions, we will, as per chief Jim Hopper, punch some people in the face when they seek to destroy the weak, the disenfranchised, and we will do it all with soul, with heart, and with joy. We thank you for this responsibility.

hummm...I would say the same about the average Europeans in the US! Who's the naive one?

It has nothing to do with individuality but rather with culture and the kind of life you prefer! Clearly you and I differ in that regard!

No.

The average European citizen's migration is what America's foundation was formed upon. They came here (and still do) mostly for a healthier level of individuality which often provides them with better economic and social prospects.

Once again, you label your own lack of knowledge as "difference of opinion". You do this in every debate. What I'm stating has facts in it. What you're stating is just opinions you have heard or read about on mainstream media.

Dude...what are you talking about? bringing up history of horseback riding. I live here and I know majority of the Swedes can not stand living in the US! and that is not only restricted to the Swedes. In my field of work, I get to meet international people on daily basis. I talk to them and majority of the West and South Europeans can not stand living in the US because of the mentality/policies/laws etc. I know people who've lived in the US and then have come back and didn't wanna go back again! You seem to think you are the knowledgeable one. Please enlighten me how American freedom is vastly superior to that of the Swedish one as you just claimed.

That is one flaw with the system because they have to take your word for it. This applies more to private unis because MOST public institutions banned AA(Affirmative Action). This is more for schools like Harvard, where the student is boarderline. How in the hell do you know for sure who I claim to say I am is true? You do not, that is the criticism the other is only Blacks and Mexicans benefit, other minorities are left on the outside looking in. That is the double screw you, not only you are a minority but no scholarship or no letter stating "Congratulations sir or ma'am you have been admired to X University," or you.

The discussion around liberalism is actually becoming quite confusing.

If we are talking about Social liberalism, the U.S has actually led the way in many aspects. and for the most part this social liberalism in the U.S has been quite positive.

If we are talking about economic liberalization (Milion Friedman-ism) one can argue that it has gone too far in the U.S while it has not progressed far enough in Europe.

But the idea that countries with different geographies and histories can have identical system is insane. The United state historically has pushed for individualism because the country was vast. it allowed people to be on their own. As the U.S has become more urbanized these degree of individual "freedom"s have slightly become de-emphasized in favor more collectivism.

the reality is we will seldom be at happy equilibrium. what matters is what works for each society and the average person in that society.

in Europe there are not enough jobs; there is a lot of established order. In the U.S there are plenty of jobs; plenty of wealth. however the distribution becomes more unequal every decade for since 1970s.

but this really has little to do with Trump. because he has not really expressed anything that is consistent with the existing orthodoxy. He basically has winged it and a significant number of people have liked it. not because they agree with on everything. but because they are tiered of all existing fake politicians (ala Hillary).

The unhappiness in the U.S will become significantly worse. because higher education and skilled workforce training has not yet become a priority through out the country. The U.S has hidden significant number of imbalances because it has the world reserve currency.

No, you misunderstood me! I mean let's say that option in the application where you select what race you are, is not there! This means the people deciding whether or not you should get the scholarship don't know what race you've got. How does that contribute to ignore a certain race when it comes to receiving scholorships? Because I thought that's what you said was the reason behind having race categories in the applications.

Charmahal jan, while I agree with you with most of the things you said, I just want to point out that when you look at socially progressive countries (I'm not talking about history but today) when it comes to basic human needs, welfare, education, healthcare, employment, comfort and generally just "wellbeing". if you count all the categories together, not many countries beat north European countries, including the US. That has been reported in various statistics too.

Now I'm not saying by any means that the US and other countries are bad! As you said, specially the level of economy and employment in the US is very high. but some people have this illusion of the US being the dream land where everyone in the world seek to go to, which is absolutely not true! As said in my previous replies, just as average Americans can not live in many European countries, average Europeans can not live in the US either. That has nothing to do with liberalism, freedom or what ever. It's just cultural and different ideas of an ideal life style for people in different countries.

Now the reason for this discussion is to say, I'm personally living in this liberal, democratic and comparatively fair world which is totally against everything Trump stands for and which is apparently a dream in lala land for Trump supporters!

Not only it's no "dream in lala land", actually your "liberal, democratic and comparatively fair" place of residence is not good enough for most Americans. That's why they don't even think about a place like Sweden when choosing a president. Bernie Sanders tried to appeal to the masses via economic rhetoric slightly (not much) similar to those in Europe. He is still laughed at. He couldn't even beat a well-hated figure like Hillary Clinton among liberals! That's how unappealing a European-style government is to most Americans. I actually like and respect the man because just like Trump, he would present a new direction, but evidently Americans want nothing to do with it.

The idea is to respect and accept the choice made by the American people. The people who are the true owners of America.

The choice was made clear by count of 65,844,954 to 62,979,879.
We wouldn't have this discussion if only 12000 more would have chosen Hillary in Michigan, and by the way where do you get the idea that she is the "well -hated figure among liberals"?

You bring up some valid points but there are pockets that are liberal and conservative, that is why you hear the word a nation divided. I am more in the middle and the definition of a true moderate. Now the only thing we can do for those of us stuck here is take a wait and see approach. Will Trump get impeached, my guess is probably not. Will he win in four years, I do not think that will happen.

@BT good call with Bernie Sanders had the same level of success as some Socialists in Euro countries.
@CM jan the problem with some of these sociaist European countires is the reports can have a bias to socialism and keep in mind population. That system might work in tiny ass Denmark but even the idea of it makes most Americans want to vomit. It will never work here mate.

Social Liberalism has been positive in the US if you are affluent. For everyone else, it's a mixed bag. (may argue it has been positive if you are white and affluent but let's just say affluent).

That's not true and rather from a Ayn Rand fairytale. You could give a list of individual achievements by Swedes, be it as entrepreneurs, artists or whatever to kill the notion that in Sweden liberalism and individuality goes to die. I don't want to say that Sweden is a model society but your portray of Sweden is also far from true. In fact, Sweden is the one country with the highest emphasize on individuality in Europe. Kids are taught from ground up to express themselves, to be confident, they learn English almost bilingually....the idea that Sweden is the host of collectivism is absurd.

In fact, the major point is that you can achieve anywhere a lot, if you sacrifice, give up a part of your life and what not. The American Dream is just any dream where you sign up to capitalism and let it go. To make it big requires sacrifice and a bit of luck. That can be achieved in every country. The US has just been better at selling it and there's more money in the US than anywhere else. Other than that, it's the same anywhere in the western world. Now whether you sit on 100 Million Dollars or 2 Billion Dollars is the same in the end.
