Was this the last chance to advance to Olympics for Iran's football?

4 decades has passed since Iran's football was able to participate in the Olympics final tourney.
It seems like this year might have been the last chance for our football.
Apparently there are talks about replacing football with futsal after Rio Olympics, in which case qualifying for it should not be a problem for Iran, but IRI would take the wish to qualify in football to the grave....

Where is the link suggesting they want to remove Football from Olympics ?
Olympic football is very important for women.

Not sure if the youth olympics is being confused with regular olympics here by Iranian media and Iranian Olympic Committee or this change is an indication of what to expect for the next olympics in 2020 as well.

By the way, the article talks about FIFA's effort to greater inclusion and participation of women in football as well.

i hope so.soccer at the olympics is a side show and dose not
really fit in with the format of the games.
for international soccer it's the wc that counts plus the continental
club and nations cups.

It is referring to Youth Olympic.

no they are talking about the real olympics.
let's face it olympics are all about track & field,swimming,boxing,
gymnastics,and the other sports that don't got much world wide
attention other than in the olympics.few remember who won the
gold medal in soccer.
soccer already has the world cup which is THE soccer event.
it would be a good move to replace it with futsal.

olympic soccer by definition is bogus since it's age limited.
that is the only sport in the games with such a restriction.
every other sport gives a gold medal to the best in their
respective sport other than soccer.which is why brazil or germany
have never won it but nigeria,cameroon and mexico have won it.
what a bust!
