After group stages is complete, this world cup has been the dryest in terms of goals per game on record! Below are stats of Goal per game averages after the group stages of the post war world cups. And if the last 2 world cups are any indication, the goal average dries up even further in the knockout rounds! If the tournament average drops to below 2, FIFA has some serious problems on its hands!

2010: 2.104
2006: 2.438
2002: 2.708
1998: 2.625
1994: 2.583
1990: 2.278
1986: 2.333
1982: 2.778
1978: 2.500
1974: 2.625
1970: 2.542
1966: 2.417
1962: 2.708
1958: 3.500
1954: 5.111
1950: 3.563

Game needs fixing big time.

What the hell happened in the 50s?!! was there a surge of goals because countries were still in the "war mood" and wanted to kill each other?!!

Oh I forgot! The great Hungarians were dominating with massive scorelines. Those days are gone

The attacking central midfielder role is almost completely vanished and with it took away a lot of beauty. Instead, 4-5 guys play khers vasat on the line until an opportunity opens up!:--closed:

It is because of the 50's football that we have the ultra defensive formations now! The Eastern europeans and South Americans were kicking the shit out of western europe and because the western europeans couldn't compete with their fire power, they invented defence to nullify their opponents huge advantage!

The great Hungarian team of the 50's had invented the W formation which was an all out attack with 5 strikers! You can look at many teams in this years world cup and not find 5 recognised strikers in the 23 man squads! that's pathetic.

The other thing is that in those days there were no substitutions in the game. If someone got injured, they had to hop along or go out and their team would play a man short and this obviously created alot more space for attacking players to run into. Also, it meant you couldn't take your attacking players out of the game and replace them with defensive players etc to protect a lead! This meant all players had to be versatile and know how to defend and attack in case their teams tactics changed half way through the game. This versatility of course meant there were not too many specialised defenders (as in it wasn't a 100% focus)!

Fuck man, I better go to sleep before I bore myself with this shit! Head is so full of useless info! LOL;)
