General:
on the topic again, can I ask if you were in Iran at the time of the revolution? I do not mean exactly in Feb. 79, but in 1977-1978. Were you in Iran, or outsdie, or like some people going back an d forth.
I hope you do not mind me asking. But I have found that, among other factors, going through the revolution in Iran, does have an impact on one's views.
On your explanation (your very post) do you mean to imply that the class divisions or inequalities were a main factor? Or did you imply that Shah's (or his staff) neglect of some realities of the society were crucial?
I personally think that the latter was much more important than the former. One of the craziest things he did near the end, was changing the calendar. Though I am in agreement that the Iranian calendar should not be based on the movement of some tribe in the Arabian desert, he should have approached the topic much more intelligently. In general, his perceived arrogance (although I think it was much more perception than reality) was a contributing factor.
