advantages:
- iran has abundant supply of uranium. therefore there is a security of supply which would make it independent of foreign sources once fossil fuels run out
- diversity of supply. it is very important not to rely on only one source of energy.
- amount of power generated. a 1000 MW nuclear plant provides the same amount as 10 General Electric LMS100 industrial gas turbine engines running at full capacity full time. it provides energy that irans industry and residential sectors, especially in villages, need desperately.
- technology development. Canada's 1000MW CANDU reactor is still in R&D stage, in comparison, so iran's reactor is very up-to-date in terms of nuclear technology.
- very few harmful emissions. the only emission could be steam from cooling towers. and that only if the plant operates on a open cycle. there are no greenhouse gas and poisonous emissions into the atmosphere and radiation is contained. therefore good for the environment.
- iran is one only 5 countries in the world that can produce centrifuges and enrich uranium. this opens a new market for iran.

disadvantages:
- spent nuclear fuel must be stored in safe containers, otherwise there is radiation leakage. it can also be reprocessed to get plutonium, but then it is at risk to be stolen by terrorists to make a dirty bomb.
- danger of nuclear accidents.

in my opinion the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, and that justifies irans nuclear energy program, if it is for peaceful purposes.
