Anders Frisk quits refereeing after threats
[font=arial, verdana]UEFA logo[/font][font=arial, verdana]STOCKHOLM, Mar 12 (SW) - The Swedish referee Anders Frisk has announced to retire immediately after receiving threats aimed at both him and his family. This was reported by the Swedish agency TT late on Friday.
Frisk's last big match was the clash between Barcelona and Chelsea at Camp Nou last month. The Swede was accused of having received Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard in his changing room at half time. Later that match, Chelsea striker Didier Drogba was sent off.
It is not the first time that Frisk is the center of attention: Just after the first half of the Champions League match between AS Roma and Dynamo Kiev last season, he was hit by an object thrown from the stands, after which the match was suspended.
Internationally, Frisk, who was scheduled to referee the WC Qualifier match between Estonia and Slovakia on March 26th, was regarded as one of the top referees.
