Hello guys,
The other day I read a thread in a forum saying that some m.boards
do not support UDMA modes > 2 on the second channel. That you can tell
by looking at the color of the 2nd IDE Socket, if not blue then that's the case.
My m.board MSI-845PE Max2-FIR has a Blue IDE1 Socket and a Black IDE2 Socket. However in the spec. it says:
• Intel® 845PE Chipset
- FSB 533 MHz.
- Supports DDR 266/333 DDR technology.
- 1.5 V AGP 4X and PCI advanced high performance memory controller.
mad: have a ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 8X AGP and just a 4X 'M.B.')
• Intel® ICH4 (421BGA) Chipset
- Integrated Direct Sound AC97 audio.
- Dual channel Ultra DMA 66/100 master mode IDE controller.
- ACPI & PC2001 compliant enhanced power management.
- Integrated USB 2.0 controller.
doesn't that mean that IDE-1 & IDE-2 supports UDMA Modes 1-5?
I've been looking at pictures from several m.boards today, and not a single
one had two IDE sockets that were blue. In some cases not even one was blue.
I asked the question at MSI's own forum and their tech. admin said that both sockets are the same, the color is just so you can tell them apart.
In the forum where I read about this case, the person said, that those spec's are typical and that it means IDE 1 will support up to UDMA 5 and IDE 2 will support up to UDMA 2.
Who is right???
