The Football Association Challenge Cup, commonly known as The FA Cup, is a knockout cup competition in English football, organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). It is the oldest existing football competition in the world,having commenced in the 1871–72 season.The tournament is open to all clubs in the top ten levels of the English football league system, although a club's home stadium must meet certain requirements before the club can enter the tournament.The competition culminates in May with the FA Cup Final, which has traditionally been regarded as the showpiece finale of the English football season.
The record for the most wins is held by Manchester United, with eleven titles , followed by Arsenal with ten & Tottenham Hotspur with eight.
Chelsea are the defending champions, having beaten Liverpool 2–1 in last season's final.
The 2012–2013 FA Cup is the 132nd season of The FA Cup.
A total of 833 clubs applied to enter, with 758 clubs being accepted into the competition.The preliminary rounds commenced on 11 August 2012, with the first round proper to be played on 3 November 2012 and the final to be contested on 11 May 2013 at Wembley Stadium.
The winners of the competition will earn a place in the group stage of next season's UEFA Europa League, if they have not already qualified for European competition; if so then the runners-up will instead take this berth.
