The thing is i got my hands on a pare of JBL l100t speakers for free, so i was thinking of taking advantage of them. I dont even know if its worth it or not.

Of course World's greatest sound system is Bang & Olufsen but Only if you can afford it ;)
it isn't. It's just a better designed Phillips. Bang & Olufsen is just about the looks. Quality is rather not according to price.

Go for Bose. I also heard good stuff about new Denon's. But Bose is Bose.

400 W per channel?? Do you hate your neighbors.
Most of high end receiver/amplifier or stand alone amplifier do not deliver that much power per channel.
For stereo receiver I recommend Yamaha. You can get new RX-397 for $250 in future shop.

If you like to build up your system to surround sound etc Yamaha RX-V367. These are basic models in the price range you mentioned.

The JBL speaker you mentioned sound old model. Do they worth it to buy a new receiver for them. Check second hand receivers.
Good luck.

I can't understand why no one can make stuff like Bose. Their prices are ridiculous. I mean how hard is it for the Chinese to make knock offs and sell them for 1/10th of the price?
dude i seen some made by Chinese but its not even CLOSE !!! BOSE is just one level higher than the rest, I LOVE the sound quality out of those speakers.

Ok I got curious and spent some time researching the hype around Bose.

I'm no audiophile and have no loyalty to any brand, but apparently Bose is pretty crappy stuff for the money you pay. Almost all sound experts in discussion forums agree that Bose's expensive price-tag comes from their marketing. They list so many (I really mean so many) other systems that produce much better sounds and last longer than any Bose product for almost half the price.

Take a look:
