Iran’s oldest high-rise, Plasco, in the capital city of Tehran has collapsed following a major fire incident.

The Plasco building collapsed after fire engulfed the top floors of the 17-storey building in downtown Tehran on Thursday morning.

Head of Iran’s Emergency Organization, Pir-Hossein Kolivand said a number of firefighters have been trapped under the debris.

Rescue operation is underway to find the missing firefighters, he added.

The building, which was inaugurated in 1962, included shopping centers and clothing workshops.

I think this is a global problem where the chief executive fire fighter on the scene has to call off the fire fighters, at what point you should stop and just give up ?

Very sad news.

shocking news ........so sad ... thoughts with the family of lost firefighters ,they were so brave to risk their lives to save others ,while loss of material is regrettable loss of life is terrible .

Deepest condolences to those who lost their loved ones .... I think every Tehrani and many Iranians have some memory of this old tower ....I hope they open a bank account for the benefit of those brave firefighters so people can contribute what they can to show their gratitude to them .:ess-cry:

Unbelievable how more than 36 hours have passed and still no count of dead, injured or rescued in a relatively limited disaster with few unknowns.

Just imagine how a devastating earth quake in Tehran would be handled.

unfortunately if an earth quake hit Tehran. it is not just tehran that will be paralyzed.

it will be all of the country. because I doubt iran's Mobile Operator, Gas Operators, ... have contingency plans in place
in case their HQ goes down and is nonoperational.

The Number one issue when Tehran Earth Quake comes is the issue of drinking water for the rest of populace. of the city.
