Iran tests new Sejjil-2 missile with success

Iran has successfully tested an optimized version of the solid-fuel Sejjil-2 deterrent missile as part of its long-term plans to defend the country's borders.

The high-speed surface-to-surface, which was launched on Wednesday morning, has been designed and built by the Iranian Ministry of Defense.

Back in May, Iran tested the initial version of the two-stage Sejjil-2 missile. The Sejil-2 has a longer range than the Shahab-3 missile.

The deterrent system was built as part of an effort to design a more accurate and swift missile than previous Iranian-made models.

This new version of the Sejjil-2 is faster during the powered flight portion of its trajectory and also during the re-entry phase.

It is also harder to detect for anti-missile systems, as it is covered with anti-radar material.

The new highly maneuverable missile is also more efficient as it requires less amount of time for prelaunch preparations. This quality reduces the possibility of it being targeted prior to take off.

According to comments made by Iran's defense minister, Brigadier Ahmad Vahidi, the missile-launch is part of Iran's efforts to boost deterrence capabilities.

"The launch of an optimized version of Sejjil is part of Iran's defense doctrine and its standard missile activities," Vahidi said in a speech before the test began.

"Iran's missile capabilities are strictly defensive and at the service of regional peace and stability. They will never be against any country," he stressed.

In a phone interview with Press TV, journalist and political commentator Kiyan Nader Mokhtari elaborated more about the features of the new missile.

"The engine and various fuels have been tested and the platform is now highly reliable. The latest tests to be carried out are mainly to do with the variety of warheads that it has to carry," he said.

"Some of the warheads obviously have been designed to be able to evade anti-ballistic missile defenses of the enemy in actual battle conditions," he added.

West censures Iran for upgraded missile test
Wed, 16 Dec 2009 16:42:43 GMT

Iran's long-range, improved Sejil 2 missile is test-fired in an unknown location in the country. Certain countries in the West have condemned the missile test.

After Iran successfully tested an upgraded version of its longest-range, solid-fuel missile, certain countries in the West condemned the move.

Iran on Wednesday tested a new version of its Sejjil-2 missile, which is faster, highly more maneuverable, and more efficient as its anti-radar cover material makes it harder to detect by anti-missile systems.

In the United States, the White House said such moves would increase world resolve in opposing Iran's nuclear program adding that the tests "undermine" the Tehran government's assertions about the peaceful nature of its program.

"Such actions will increase the seriousness and resolve of the international community to hold Iran accountable for its continued defiance of its international obligations on its nuclear program," said National Security Council spokesman Mike Hammer.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, for his part, said the test was a matter of "serious concern", adding that it makes the case for "moving further on sanctions" against Iran.

Meanwhile, France said the test sends a very bad signal and raises concerns about Tehran's nuclear program.

In a separate backlash, Germany described the missile test as "alarming", saying it made Iran unsuccessful in rebuilding the trust of the international community.

The Italian government criticized Iran for its latest missile test, saying the world is "in need of constructive gestures and not missile tests."

Iran faces pressure to halt its nuclear enrichment as world powers claim the program is aimed at building a nuclear bomb.

Tehran, however, says nuclear weapons have no place in its defensive doctrine and has called for the removal of all weapons of mass destruction from across the globe.

in mooshak ha ye arabi iroonisham hast?, esmesh khyeli 3 ye .
Useless feshfesheh. Iranian armforces is weak. Even weaker than Sadam's '4th largest' army in the world prior the invasion of the US back in 1990 which was defeated in 44 days. Iran army can be defeated in less than that. Any war is won by the airforce and Iran's airforce is obsolite and its 30-40 year old planes falls off the sky due to technical dificulties. Western media has made Iran look like a monster and a superpower so that they can implement their own agenda by controling their own media and brainwash their public. It is a dum world!

How many thousand Iranians can you kill, imprison, and torture using this missile with? That is the prime function of Sepah and the only question of interest.

I hear you man! We all want the same. But you can't kill cancer with a simple dose of an aspirin! Remember, Germany, Italy, Japan before the war and after war! yeah yeah Iran did not invade any country. But the only way to finish it off is by military force like in Iraq and aghanistan. The opposition in Iran is groing but they are unarmed. Thousands will be killed by the mullahs. You have to hit them as hard as possible.....These mullahs have no where to go but to get martyred to the last man...
