i've just come back from iran (mashad) after a week ... i was absolutely amazed by what i witnessed there, never seen anything like it in my entire life!! the atmosphere was highly ploiticised, highly emotional but also surprisingly controlled at the same time .... so many people so many people were voting yesterday... to be honest, i'm not too surprised he's won the election because on wednesday night, i personally witnessed waves after waves of MA's supporters going to the affluent parts of mashad shouting their support for him... it seemed to me that they wanted to "roo kam koni" the people in these areas ... but mousavi had solid support in theses (affluent) areas, karrubi&rezaie had little visible support anywhere.
last wednesday morning, i had to go to a deprived area of mashad & it was obvious MA had solid support there... the people who supported MA seemed to do it mainly for economic/religious reasons
i must say i expected mousavi to better than the reported results, i mean i expected mousavi to go to the second round & then win it.... he seemed to have a lot of momentum during the last week of the election... it also seemed MA's camp had taken mousavi lightly initially and only when mousavi started to campagin really hard that they realised that they could actually lose the election & actually started organising public support for him on the streets
