First of all, this is sport anything can and usually will happen.

1) In wrestling you need the luck of "draw".

If you look at the draw you see that the bottom half of the draw was by FAR MUCH stronger than top half. You basically had #1 ranked (sourian) #2 ranked (Korean) #3 ranked Russian and # 5 ranked (Serbian) there. Only #4 ranked was in the other half.

So Sourian had to start with #7 rank, (won), then he beat an unknown, then he lost to #3, then he beat #5 ranked and lost to # ranked.

2) He did not really lose any match, 2 matches were TIED, but by stupid rule that whomever scores last should win, he lost. They used to have (4 years ago) the most aggressive wrestler given the win in case of tie. This was much more fair.

3) The russian wrestler had a lot more experience than him, 5 more years od competitive wrestling

4) He wrestled one extra match!!!! There should be a system that protects top rated wrestlers to have extra bouts.

5) He had an injury

6) he is only 22, A wrestlers peak is between 25-28.

7) Wrestlerss like Mango (american) who is in same weight class as sourian have been trianed from very early age with all the possibliteies. Is that the case for sourian? He is doing this because he loves the sport and Iran so give the poor guy a break (to both ISP and a few members)

That was my 2 cents

I agree. We expect too much from the boy. He is probably the only Iranian athlete ever to have won 3 world championships before he is 23. He has already given us enough pride and I hope he stays healthy to make us proud many more times.

sorry cant agree with most of your points. But like you I dont blame Sorian for this, he is one young talented Wrestler we should all be proud of. but our Wrestling has been in downfall in the last 5 yrs and this is the result of poor management.

The truth is our Wrestling achievements was always relied on pure talent and ofcourse we had a pretty good Wrestling Federation boss, Taleghani, before. but in the past 5 yrs our wrestling management have gone into a complete overhaul(in a bad sense).

So it lead to Good caring Wrestling officials to step down and be replaced by incompetent officials who came to power by connections.. Very similar to what happened in our Football. and that lead to Poor individual wrestler's trainings, coaching changes, etc and this is the result. which is very natural when u dont plan and prepare for such imp event.

2008 Olympic games wasnt the first shock our Wrestling faced..our wrestling team lost to Cuba, Russia, even Uzb in World Wrestling Champs several times, that they used to EASILY win the title before. Iran Wrestling team was eliminated so constantly that they took away World Wrestling Champ hosting from Iran. they didnt take it seriously back then and here is the bigger shock..

No, not really.

So the one's who did win in the past won because of what those in charge provided?

Sorry, not.
No they won because of their own talash and so did Sourian in the 3 past WC, right? Imagine what he would have done in the olympics with just some pro help..

Your contradictions aside, when you say pro, you seem to forget that we are the pros when it comes to wrestling.

HMS has a very valid point. The article fails to see the big picture that SOrian was injured but gave it his best despite of that.
