interesting article..

to me riquelme's football is somehow similar to that of Xavi...just that Xavi can play faster but Riquelme has a broader spectrum as a player because he can shoot much better, dribbles better and has probably also a broader spectrum of passes. but he is moody which Xavi as an example isn't really. But both are pass first players trying to make their team mates look better, none of them is really strong defensively(although Xavi there has slightly the edge). It's just that Xavi seems to have lately found a way to survive in modern football.

Xavi does not only play faster but he has also got quicker feet.
He can negotiate himself out of a tight spot whilst Riquelme cant.

But yeah, Riquelme has a wider arsenal than Xavi.

that's sort of true but if you put a man marker on Xavi or play early pressure, he suffers maybe even worse than Riquelme does in such a situation. Just look at last years Clasico.

and the game against Sweden in Euros. He got subbed out.
Stll, easier said than done.
Todays game, you man mark one guy, you give away space to another. Specially against a team like Barca.

theoretically yes....but if the team plays with 9 because one is too lazy to run and the other comes from injury, it turns pretty useless.

Well Riquelme is a player, like westie said, who is kinda moody, so when u mark him tightly he will get annoyed and his play gets worse. Put a annoying marker on him and you got him incappacitated.
