It supposed to be all Iranian made! :)

A generic copy of most other Indian/Chinese compacts that are based on European designs of late 90s/early 2000s.

That's not the problem. The problem is internals. Iranian assembly lines are absolutely horrifying. Worse than Chinese village factories. In companies like Saipa, quality control is a game of "favors", not a science based on facts. That's a terrible culture for industrial manufacturing.

People really need to stop doing each other "favors" in that part of the world. Favors are fucking disasters.

It will probably be very cheap compared to other Iranian cars. and if it can only beat Pride "a bit" in terms of quality, I'm all for it being widely used in the country. Hopefully it will replace pride if the quality is better.

A 2017 Nissan Micra is currently listed at $9,988 (Canadian dollars). That's less than 30,000,000 tomans. It is literally 10 times the car that a piece of crap Pride could be. The aim should not be to replace Pride. The aim should be to make a company like Saipa get their shit together and produce something at Nissan Micra level. Instead, the Iranian auto manufacturing mafia enjoys a 110% import duty on the Nissan Micra which makes their shitty Pride or this new car called "Quick" look like cheap options.

I'm sure you already knew this, yet you still advocate a car that could be "a little bit better than Pride". It's simply wrong.

I could buy the argument that by producing locally we will gradually get better at it and eventually catch up with the rest of the world in terms of quality and workmanship, however, given the long history of our endeavors in car manufacturing, we not only have managed to remain 30 years behind everyone else, I could make a case that we have actually regressed in most departments such as quality control and service. That is some sort of an achievement on its own.

I'm not advocating it and yes, in a perfect world, Iran should be producing cars at the level of Mercedes or BMW! But in "IR of Iran", anything that is a bit better than Pride (IF it's better), is a gift for the people!

Iran has indeed come a long way since 20 years ago! Yes, if the revolution didn't happen, you'd expect Iran to produce cars at least as good as South Korean cars (from what I read both countries started to build car factories around the same time). But in Iran's situation, I guess it's still very good to see the country is producing domestic cars at the level of Samand and Quick.

Having said that, Samand has been produced by IKCO for the past 15 years or so. It's time for a big upgrade! They need to start producing models with different look and better quality!

With the car manufacturing ambitions I see from Iran, we'd definitely not only been on par with Korea, we might have had better cars too. You can not deny the fact that the revolution and on top of that 8 years of war put everything on halt. and at the same time, all the sanctions haven't made things easier!

With all that in mind, Iran is still producing the likes of Samand and Quick but most important of all, they are exporting variations of Samand too. That is awesome with all the set back in mind. We'd definitely be far ahead of China, India and even Spain if we didn't have all those obstacles along the way.

I know it is fashionable to say iranian cars suck.

but in my book Samand is not that bad. yes it is 27 year old technology. brand new at 33,000 million is basically $8800.

If the Samand pollution was to be brought down by 40% to bring on par with modern cars; I can stand its under powered status. the price should be no more than $6000.

basically IranKhodro is stealing money out of people's pockets.

I can see now that it's got a lot of gadgets that are usually included in a standard modern car today. Like, back camera with parking sensors, cruise control, touch screen GPS, bluetooth and many more....

Samand is really falling behind in those departments. IKCO need to move their a$$es! A tremendous upgrade of Samand is needed badly!

This is an invalid argument.

Building a compact car is absolutely not that hard. Every crappy Chinese or Indian village now has the production chain to produce one. The real challenge is competing with top brands that mass produce these cars at relatively cheap prices. The real challenge is market share.

Companies like Saipa and Iran Khodro do not have that problem because they're heavily subsidized by the government and they also enjoy insane import duties slapped on their competition. They can always build anything and claim it costs half of the competition thanks to Iran's closed economy.

Your example is a terrible one. Why don't you compare Saipa's cars with Chinese and Indian equivalents from Tata and MVM? Better yet, why don't you compare them with Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Nissan Micra/Versa, Hyundai Accent, and Kia Forte? Those are the "values" to beat, not McLaren.

Iranian car manufacturers are frauds that are stealing money. A chain of people need to be jailed for this fraud, but let's celebrate this marvel of engineering called "Pride", oh sorry, "Quick"!
