Hello all.

I want to buy a tea loving family member a samovar but I can not find anything available but this:

http://megaforce.ca/products.php

Does anyone have experience with the above or any recommendations for North America and Canada specifically?

Thanks in advance.

How much are you willing to spend?

Here's a $600 one in Toronto.

Another Russian one (Samovars are Russian devices) for $150:

Another nice one for $450:

These are all in Toronto. I didn't look for other cities.

Here's a fairly decent electric one on Ebay for $250:

And this one for the price, it looks gorgeous: ($150)

And this one is your basic stainless steel Persian electric Samovar at $87:

Thanks Soroush. My only issue is I don't live in Toronto, so access to those kijiji ones is a bit difficult. Have you heard anything about the electrical one I linked?

Fatso jan , you can find some great shire samovar in Iran. check with IPL football referees for that. :)

On a serious note , why not ask someone in Iran to send it to you via a fellow traveler. there are some fantastic samovars in Iran specially the " varsho " ones made in Boroojerd.

Do you realize there are no samavars even in Iran anymore? It went the way of cheragh nafti and gerdsooz.
What are you talking about? There are variety of Samavars in Iran.

There are full Tower ones that Burn on natural gas.

There are ones that are designed to on top of stove.

Yes They don't make oil run Samavars because Virtually all of Iran is connected to the Natural Gas Grid. It is easier to supply the Samavar with Natrual Gas Hose than keep on pouring oil into it.

It is bit nostalgic. but I have to say I was never fond of taking a 20-Litri or 10-Litri out in the middle of cold weather and then start pumping oil out of the 220L Barrel of Oil.

That was one my $hitty errands I had to do before going to sleep; I had to fill up all the Polar heaters in the house with Heating Oil.

Your Damn Hands would be smelly for a few hours.

Yes, but they are mostly in gift shops. It is decades that samavar has been displaced as a home appliance in Iranian homes. Sure, you can find them here and there but it is mostly replaced by the kettle on gas stoves.

Again, I think you need to broaden your circle. You probably can find Samavar in atleast 10% of Iranian Households. By Samavar I mean the Varieties that exist.

Yes people in North of Tehran don't use it because it dos not exactly scream I am fashionable.

Samovar hasn't gone out of fashion at all. It's just that in busy cities like Tehran, there's rarely enough people home to justify a running Samovar.

I disagree with the 10% figure. I'd say more than half of the households in Iran have Samovar, but not all of them make regular use of it because of what I mentioned.
