A.I announced his retirement today. Not surprising really, but what a waste of talent. Too bad he didn't have the required discipline to fulfill his potentials. IMO, he is the most talented basketball player ever. And this is coming from a Laker fan.

Thats why I dont put too much credit behind your comment ;)

AI was good. But he wasnt an all time great. He was too selfish, played average defense at best, and was more of a scorer than a complete basketball player. Gary Payton in his prime was a better player than AI was.

AI was very good off the dribble and was exciting to watch. He was probably the best player ever under 6' tall. But I would not call him the most talented player even of this era, not even top 10...

Duncan
Garnett
Wade
Kobe
Lebron
Paul
Nash
Dirk
Howard
Shaq

Physical attributes are just one measure of talent. Mental aptitude is a talent as well. AI (ironically the acronym for artificial intelligence) had very little...

he was the realest person in the NBA..it's a pity his career ends like this. the guy really just played for the fun of it. his stories about staying up all night, going for pancakes at 6 am and then dropping 40 points are the stories legends are made of. too bad there will never ever ever ever be another player like him.

Right or wrong, I define talent in a different way. When I say talented, I mean the natural ability of that player. For me A.I was a natural born basketball player, he wasn't just about "practice" like most of the all time greats. You know, he is like Ali Karimi to me who I consider the most talented player in history of our football but not the greatest. A.I and Karimi didn't really "practice" as much of others but they were still one of the best players out there.

Having said that, you definition of talent is perhaps more complete. Mental aptitude is an important measure of talent but I think it's more developed through experience.

Btw, are you a Clipper fan?

No, I dont have a favorite team. Generally I just root for the lakers to lose, so my favorite team is usually the team playing the lakers ;)

The NBA ranks just above bowling on my list of favorite spectator sports and I hate bowling.

I did like AI. So I wont spend too much time arguing.

Loved the video. Thanks.

He's one of the most talented scorers. I loved watching him, so entertaining.

but.. at the end of the day, he had the worst attitude, missing practice because he didn't feel like it, and ruining the team chemistry a lot of the times. I wouldn't want him on my team if I was planning to win a game. Entertainment? that's a different story..

a 6' that can dunk over taller guys.. r u kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and that's what I'm not buying...

the easy answer is that he never had a competitive team except for 2000-2001 and that year he took the team to the final. But even then his second best teammate was Dikembe Mutombo, and the other guys were role players(McKie, Snow, Hill) at best. All this talk about him being a bad teammate, not playing D, being ineffective...yeah great, but at his prime, he didn't have a half decent team to play with and the Sixers are one of the dumbest franchises in the game.

i've always been huge AI fan but going as far saying 'Most talented player', IMO, is a exaggeration. i would love to see him back but his qualities and style of play makes it difficult for any team to accommodate him if they are pursuing championship.
He is a great, fun, talent player but he lacks leadership. a perfect example is Denver with Iverson and Denver with Billups !!! Iverson way more talented than Billups but Billups turned Nuggets into a powerhouse.

Report: Sixers offer Iverson deal

PHILADELPHIA -- Allen Iverson and the Philadelphia 76ers are close to a reunion.

A person with knowledge of the contract talks says the Sixers offered a one-year, non-guaranteed contract to Iverson on Tuesday. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the contract talks had not been made public.

Iverson, his agent and business manager met with team president Ed Stefanski, coach Eddie Jordan and two other members of the organization Monday during the first formal meeting between the Sixers and their former MVP.

Iverson announced his retirement last week after an ill-fated stint with the Memphis Grizzlies. The 10-time All-Star was NBA MVP in 2001 when he led the Sixers to the NBA Finals.

CSNPhilly.com first reported the offer.

ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported early Tuesday that the Sixers, according to two sources close to the situation, were targeting Monday's home game against the Denver Nuggets for Iverson's return to the team that drafted him in 1996.

After club officials met face-to-face with Iverson and his representatives for nearly two hours Monday before Philadelphia's 104-102 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, three of the organization's key figures -- Jordan, Stefanski and Comcast-Spectacor chairman Ed Snider -- all insisted publicly that no firm decision has been made on re-signing Iverson for the rest of the season.

But sources stressed to ESPN.com that plans behind the scenes had progressed to a level where Iverson's return was now regarded by both sides as far more likely than not. Although it remains unclear whether Iverson has the leverage to command anything more than a prorated share of the $1.3 million veterans' minimum, all indications late Monday suggested that only an unforeseen about-face by the Sixers could prevent Iverson from formally rejoining them by week's end.

One source told ESPN.com that the team has already made tentative plans to send assistant coach and former Iverson teammate Aaron McKie home from the Sixers' current road trip to meet Iverson in Philadelphia later this week and work him out to ensure Iverson's readiness for the Denver game. The Sixers play Thursday in Oklahoma City and Saturday in Charlotte before returning to Philadelphia.

Although another team insider cautioned that no deal with Iverson should be considered done until it's official -- especially after the New York Knicks seemed to get just as close to signing Iverson earlier this month before electing to back out at the 11th hour -- there was an unquestioned sense of inevitability in the locker room in Dallas that Iverson will soon be a Sixer again.

"No doubt he's coming back," one source said.

Information from The Associated Press and ESPN.com senior NBA writer Marc Stein was used in this report.
