There were handful of players that never showed any nerves playing against any team or player ,they had bags of confidence and believed in their own ability and could walk in to any game in any competition and perform as if they play in their local league ....
Parviz Ghelichkhani , Nasser Hejazi , Mohammad Sadeghi ,Hassan Roshan ,Hassan Nazari ,Nasrollah Abdollahi were in this calibre .

From the post revolution, the only ones I can think of were Daie, Azizi and to a lower degree Mahdavikia.
Karimi, shajaie, and Bagheri had the potential to be the best but dont think they have the confidence nor the personality. Shojaie is very last of what could for a long time be considered the very last of the legends, thanks to the Islamic republic destroying Football in Iran.

I think Mahdavikia hands down is the most successful player who could well mix it with the best there is , Daei , Bagheri , Azizi and Karimi were also right behind him . He played for 10 years in Bundess liga , nearly 300 games for Hamburg and also made it to Hamburg team of century !
I just wanted to share some thoughts on Ghelich and Roshan , Ghelich scored the most important goal in Iran history , a bullet of a shot from long range that went in like a rocket passed a helpless Visoker that only had time to turn his head and wacth the ball nearly burst his net and thus beating Israel for our first ever Asian trophy and a start of a Ten golden years of Iran football . He scored many like that and was a pivot and a real heavy weight with a great vision , strenght and touch .
Roshan was fast , technical and great with both feet ,he was also extremely smart with great timing and great for making something out of nothing . His accuracy was very good and if there was someone you could rely on to get you out of trouble he was your man.

What a bad luck Rowshan had for getting injured before the world cup. In the game with South Korea, right? And then the Ishalic revolution of 1979 that saw him not play in another world cup and made to retire young.
Which other great players beside Rowshan and Hejazi became the victim of the over 27 rule of the Islamic republic? Any of them executed? How was the team of the 1982?
