love the way some people talk about Bosnia....only have 2 of the better central defenders in Bundesliga, arguably a top3 keeper in Premier league, some of the best offensive players from all European leagues and the whole country is over the moon and super enthusiastic for having made it to the world cup.

But hey...their defense is weak.

mehdi jon their only keeper who play in top league is begovic .
their central one play in EB last in bundesliga (Biacakcic) and veteran Saphic who his good years are behind him i believe, but Salihovic on left is indeed a great player , in central Misomovic play in china and again his good years are behind him ( was in Bochum when Navidkia was there)
their right wing is indeed strong with Pjanic of roma and as you mentioned in attack they are VERY STRONG with both Dezko and Ibisevic .

are they better squad than us ? no doubt , but we played pretty well against them not only in one game but 4- 5 games ..

i believe they play a physical style of game and rely a lot on cross balls sending for Dezko thanks to his aerial power on air

We didn't get the easy group for sure but not the tough one either. I give TM 25%-30% chance of making it to second round.

They are top to bottom a good team and absolutely not comparable to those teams that faced IR in some meaningless friendlies. They are actually a good mix of physical strenght and technical finesse and there is no doubt that they are better than the IR team in all aspects of the game. You forgot to mention Miralem Pjanic that young guy in the midfield who plays for Roma. One heck of a dribbler and a gifted passer.

You could have a made a similar case for Serbia and an even stronger case for Italy and France in the last world cup. Remember where they finished in their groups?! Football isn't about individual talent - it's about how cohesive of a unit you form when you put players together. They're no better now than they were in 2009 when they made the UEFA playoff round for WC2010 out of a MUCH stronger group than they had this time. And we all know what the score was when we played them in 2009 with them having home field advantage and us having a MUCH weaker team than we do now! ;)

This is Bosnia's game against Algeria last year, 1-0 compliments of a 93rd minute goal. Algeria had tied Luxembourg 0-0 in their last game with a non-African opponent (i.e. they had not played even a quarter decent match for 2 years):

Bosnia are over-rated .. even their star player Dzeko is not a fixed player at Man city
Just a above average team that qualified from an easy group..

The best approach is to remain quiet and let them think they have the upper hand (they might have actually) but surprise them during the game. It all goes back to game against Nigeria though. A loss and we're 90% out.

Akhe boosni ke nemtone joloye Iran shakh beshe!!!! Baba why we even discussing it. Its freaking Bosnia, If we can't beat Bosnia and Nigeria, we don't deserve to be in next round. That's it. We could get any result we want against Argentina. That won't really matter, we should just considerate on the other two team and take care of them. Dige azashon ghol nasazin baba. They are OK but they are not like Spain, Italy... As far as Nigeria goes, They got a physical team. if we can handle that , we should be able to beat them with our technical skills!!!

dige in hame jaro base vase chie man nemifahmam!!! Just be happy and enjoy it. regardless of results. Plus this team represents Iran and Iranians nothing else. If you don't like it why even bother following them!!!

cheers!

Ok...sorry...whom do we have? Yes, in case we have a good day blabla, we might beat them, but they are on paper and in general a better team than we have and we haven't played against the current Bosnia team, which has been one of the best 16 teams in Europe over the past 4 years.

When did Slovakia beat Italy, 2010?! Different coaches, different squads, different story. They've gone through 2 or 3 coach changes just in the past two years. Plus, Italy tied New Zealand in that WC too as did Slovakia. That's not a testament to how strong New Zealand and Slovakia were, but hold old slow and crappy Italy was under Lippi's 2nd run.

loooool, the whole idea of lining up results of a team vs. anotherr team to relate it to the result of your own team, is such a ridiculous thing because you always find some odd results here and there and a inferiour team beating a superiour one every once in a while. IR beat Korea in Korea so IR must be a heck of a team because even europeans have problems to beat Korea let alone in Korea. So what? Is IR now a footballing powerhouse? :)

Na ghorboon, Bosnia is from the player material and everything else superiour to IR and IR has yet to face them in a meaningfull game. IR tends to line up their best even in friendlies and as they are bunch of nadid badid, they take friendlies at times even more seriously than meaningful games. I have seen IR lining up their full squad against korean kids and got dominated by them. Koreans as example have started considering asian championship games more or less as friendly games just to give their back ups and youth playing time and experience while IR always attends every single chosaki tournement with their full squad. loool.

Bebin dige, beshin bebin che balaai in Bosni sare IR miaare.

And what does that have to do with anything as far as Bosnia's concerned? Like I said, different groups, different coaches, different squads. No one, other than you maybe ;), was expecting Branko to do any better with his total lack of discipline on the team, his crappy squad selections, shitty game plans, and even shittier friendlies going into that tough group with arguably one of Portugal and Mexico's best ever teams. He couldn't even beat Angola for god's sake, but that was not unexpected considering he was too scared to set up a couple of decent friendlies in order not to lose his job 6 months sooner! CQ wants to play hard friendlies, this is the most disciplined Iranian side since 98, it's improving in every game as a cohesive unit, and this is by far the easiest group we've ever been in.

I give you a few names. Djeko (City) and Ibisevic (Stuttgart) are great strikers no doubt at all. On the left they most probably will play either Senad Lulic (As Roma) or that young guy who plays for the Grasshoppers in Switzerland Izet Hajrovic who only has 4 or 5 caps but i have seen him play in Swiss league and the guy is not gonna stay long in Switzerland and leave a for bigger european club. A heck of a left foot, great skills and touch for the ball. I would even play him over Senad Lulic of AS Roma. Hajrovic is as good a freekick specialist as Sejad Salihovic (Hoffenheim) and Salihovic is one of the best freekick specialists that i have ever seen. Then there is Miralem Pjanic (As Roma) who was considered one of the top talent in all europe a few years go and he still is just 23 years of age and one heck of a finesse player and a great passer. Then there is an underrated player named Haris Medunjanin, another big left foot with great shooting and dribbling abilities. He has played in Spain (Valladolid) and now he is playing in Turkey but alot of good players play in Turkey nowadays. He actually is a Dutch product as he is grown up there and played for the Netherlands at youth level.

On a good day, these guys fuck up the whole IR defense with ease. I really expect them to score 3 or 4 goals against IR.

Mahdi jan, I don't think anyone said Iran is stronger than Bosnia (if anyone did then I oppose that too). They are stronger than us, no question. What people ARE saying, however, is that we have a chance against them. As opposed to some other opponents we could've had from that pot e.g. Portugal or Holland. That's it. In my own opinion they have the biggest chance of finishing 2nd behind Argentina.

it has as much to do with everything you have said so far in this thread

well no doubt...but on a good day Iran also has a chance against Argentina because Iran ain't much worse than Bolivia. The way people talk about Bosnia though is ridiculous. Yeah sure, if we stay tight, are organized, deal with Dzeko and Pjanic, hit them on the break, blabla yeah we might win. So what? When did this discussion drag into "their players aren't that good anyway"?
