I am really disgusted to see Iranians outside of Iran voting. Most of these Iranians are refugees/asylum seekers who left Iran because they claimed to be in danger and now they are voting for the same regime they "fear". Damn hypocrites.
Almost all of the ones I knew who were standing in line last night were skilled migrants, engineers, doctors, dentists and students. I mean we all know what happened the last time everyone decided not to vote.

what happened last time 'you all' decided not to vote ?
what happened last time 'you all' decided to vote, more importantly?

what has Rohani done for the last four years in the following areas:
- umemployment
- GDP
- education ( i mean internally not exporting all sharif graduates to stanford and gernoble)
- social infrastructure
- environment, (sand storms, drying rivers and lakes, deforestation (almost disappeared natural and national resources of our jungles)
- corruption (at all levels of government)

with regards to people who actually vote:

i noticed three groups (i know there are more but there are not many iranians where i live so ...)

first group:
=======
student imports, people who have moved to Canada to do their masters or PHDs that usually live in university ghettos, around chrismas you see them swarming in tim hortons, the girls are without hejab and show some tits but not much and in their credit they are not operated on.
they talk about getting visas to go to warm countries to show their ass and the guys are constantly arguing about what courses to take the following semester at the same time they notice them checking out other guys wife or gf's tits or ass as she goes to take a piss or to change her tampon.

these kind of IR citizens which mostly end up getting canadian residence or citizenship if they don't end up in trump land are a creature completely different to exported studends two generations back. apparently during shah's time students that were sent outside Iran basically did everything political. they even took a shit in a toilet stall which was colored RED.

this group who basically have well off parents in IR and don't want the boat to be rocked and don't give a FLYING FUCK ABOUT IRAN OR IRANIAN PEOPLE ETC ETC usually vote for kos kesh e maadar jende e khar kosdeh like khatami, rohani va shohar e KIR NAVARD yani mir hossein e mousavi.

secound group:
==========
assholes who were mostly born in Sweden, Germany, some in Canada, who are stuck between the two cultures. They are swedish but they don't look German. They speak the language perfectly unlike their parents who have trouble ordering a cup of coffee but they, at times, are looked at differently because they have too much hair or their skin is not milky death white and their hair is not pigmented blonde.

these assholes have been taught (or in most cases not taught) by their parents, peers, etc etc that iranian culture is an islamic culture. so they can be qualified as a kind of an innocent among the three groups probably the least innocent iff (if and only if) internet didn't exist. Now they don't have any excuse.

the mother and father teach them this is our tradition, our language is farsi but our religion is shiye islam. hala what is shiye islam ? who cares don't ask questions take it by faith. how what which ...etc etc

these shit bags vote because it gives them identity, gives them some sort of identification but they are FUCKING STUPID since to satisfy their own vanity by a government who doesn't even count them as real IR citizens and who is only interested in their euros or dollars they fuck over 70 million people.

and most importantly ...

if they really look into the mirror in between their facebook likes and ps4 grand theft auto 7, they don't see a sweded and they don't see an iranian they see a sell out scumbag, or they should !

third group:
========

older people around my age (40somethings to death), who have been ex communists, monarchists, nationalist, kos kesh ist etc etc whose 'hafteye dige tehranim' dreams of the 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s did not materialize and they realized they have to go eat akhound cock to get their money or land back, or to visit their dying mom or dad or cancer ridden uncle and while attending a funeral found some 20 something year old marble skinned chick is showing them leg and tits (the way they never saw in los angeles, or frankfurt) and their viagra shrivelled cock had a rude awakening probably after a couple of decades and six months, 10 000 fgold coin and a child bride marriage later they thought that voting for scum rohani will keep their property price up etc etc ...

The last time people decided not to vote, the country was humiliated and raped for 8 years by a government who took Iran to the brink of war with the world.
A government came to power that took office when inflation was just over 10%, and ended office with inflation at 45%. I was in Iran at the time, and the price of goods would almost double in a month. Granted Rouhani hasn't been able to deliver in some areas, but inflation is near to what it was when AN took office. I lived in Iran under both presidents, and I can confidently tell you things were much nicer under Rouhani :)

On a lot of other issues his hands are tied, but at least we are seeing some form of challenge to the Status Quo under his presidency.
I'm glad that the vast majority of Iranians are actually politically aware enough to notice these things. Iran's best hope of change is through internal reforms. Boycotting elections will lead to a more dangerous situation than the AN area.

Groundbreaking analysis! You've just insulted the vast majority of Iranian expats.

Also, what about me? I don't fit into any of your 3 categories :)

i am really sorry but for us idiots living outside of IR, things are 'nicer' under rohani is a statement that is kind of above our intellectual level.

would it be possible for you to break 'things' and 'nicer' down to some categories with facts and figures so people like me who are not enlightened enough understand.
thank you.
if my categories above are not important in IR please enter your own categories.

On a lot of other issues his hands are tied, but at least we are seeing some form of challenge to the Status Quo under his presidency.
what challenge are you referring to and which Status Quo?
and once you explained what you mean by the two above statements please inform that what exactly has he 'done' not said mind you, 'done' to challenge the status Quo? who supported him? and what was the results?

I'm glad that the vast majority of Iranians are actually politically aware enough to notice these things. Iran's best hope of change is through internal reforms. Boycotting elections will lead to a more dangerous situation than the AN area.
i didn't see the presidency of mahmoud mashang as dangerous.
He helped gather support for Israel every time he went up to the podium with his anti jewish rhetoric. He basically made sure that Palestine will never be a state while he is president. he made the rich multiple thousand times richer and he fucked the poor which has been a trend not only in IR but in most countries in Asia and Africa.

He allowed Al Qaeda to use IR soil as a terrorist haven so he avoided the problems that iranian soldiers are having in Iraq and Syria with the other idiot muslim sect.
so in total, i don't see on ground level (not in dream world) that he was much different with Rohani aside from he poured billions of dollars in IR economy.

for you and people like you who talk about nice epxressions such as 'internal reform' va 'conversation e madani' after forty years then you should really vote people like raisi and mahmoud mashang.

people like me who see that republic as a cancer and a disease to kill iranians and iranian culture don't vote.

Keyvan Pars, your 'intellectual level' is perfectly clear for all to see. Your posts speak volumes in that area. I'm not going to bother replying.

i thought as much.

as a matter of fact it would have been nice if you had answered some of the ground level questions aside from the politics but hey we can't have it all.

So my conclusion from this conversation is that Rohani is better because 'things' are 'nicer'.
thank you for your time.

people would be wise to stop the whole preaching of others.

Humans are self-interested animals. people will do what they rationally or emotionally think of it is in their interest.

and their interest is not necessarily a short term interest or a long term interest.

voting and not voting is the end the same act. it you explicitly doing something because deem relevant to your interests.

oh my fellow forum mate, thank you. I thank you for the pure honesty.

this way of thinking, brought to earth by pagan religions and perfected by Arahamic ones is exactly what is wrong with humanity.

the two middle sentences of the post above, namely,:
Humans are self-interested animals. people will do what they rationally or emotionally think of it is in their interest.

and their interest is not necessarily a short term interest or a long term interest.
is exactly why people like us will never reach any sort of human achievement. No social justice and we will never be at a level of consciousness to be able to explore into human emotions such as kindness, brotherhood/sisterhood, compassion and the most important of all, love.

this is why we will never be Germans and Japanese.

thank you CM. for me this is one of the most important posts i have ever read in this forum.

Celebrating for a loss to Argentine and a win for a cleric go hand in hand.

So let me get this right , The guy was accused of the most embezzlement cases through out IR era and had no answer for any of them and wins the election and people are dancing because they picked the bad over the worse one ...

then few months ago in Roumania, Gov... passed a law and reduced the charges of embezzlement from execution to life in prison and people overran the country for weeks until the gov backed up

I am not sure you have the "facts" quite straight here. Rouhani was never personally accused of embezzlement. sometimes people allude to his brother having a hand here and there, but it was not really clearly accused of that at any times in the "Debates" or even the papers.

what they accused Rouhani of personally doing was buying 3000m land in Shahrak Gharb for a few million toomans. the contention is below the market price (and it probably was). but It was not really free. I remember in 1367 my dad bought a beatup peykan for 190K toomans. paying 10 times for a house is not cheap but it is not exactly free either.

Rouhani was mainly accused of cronyism and sometimes nepotism. where some of his ministers or friends might have access to import this and that. the issue astronomical salaries did hurt Rouhani last summer. It probably did cost him some votes.

Rohani some years ago:

http://www.iranpressnews.com/source/206551.htm

any thoughts on how he encourages the government to execute subversives, would you like the government of the country you are living in to hang you by the neck if you think different ???
please enlighten us.
thank you for your time.
