I shall speak from the heart; this post took a long time to write but it was well thought-out.
@Kian Pars That is the best way to handle bullies, just ignore them. One moderator here taught me how to do that feature. Of course, you can't ignore moderators. Also, I only have 1 person blocked here so overall, I am a fairly tolerant person.
@HalaMadrid I also agree with you that I like to engage with people, until they start resorting to insulting. That is why the one member here is blocked, I think everyone can figure it out. You have several features and well I agree with Gaines on one thing he said,
you can send a private DM to someone. However, sometimes when you do, they do not respond, and in that case, there is nothing one can do but move on. I would like to add: if someone takes the time to make sure that the post is grammatically and spelling correct, and you do not take the time to respond, then you are being what I like to call a snob. Newton's 2nd law of motion, for every action, there is an opposite, yet similar reaction.
One day, you might need that person, and if you are a snob then nobody will help you. I can give a personal example. La Crescenta, is an upper middle class, mountain town community, in the San Gabriel Valley, about 15 miles from Pasadena, CA. We had a neighbor who was a 30-year retired LAPD police officer. When we would go to Germany, Russia or Iran, he would even watch over the house for us.
There was another neighbor who was a grade A, arrogant jackass. I wall fast forward the notes but when he went to Poland, nobody watched over his house and when it got burglarized, nobody bothered to report it. When he asked my dad and the officer why, my dad responded, 'Because you are an asshole and nobody likes you," I added, "Are there any further questions, comments or concerns you have as to why nobody reported the crime?" I added, "You work at JPL so you should be familiar with Newton's 2nd law of motion, followed by go fly a kite(boro gomsho)"
Like Tehol jan I have low expectations here, when it comes to political discussions. The ignore feature really helps, that is one of the best features here on ISP. Again, I have a very high tolerance even one person whom people know I can't stand, I don't have him blocked. Out of the two people that everyone mentioned, I only have one blocked, we will call his initials BC, Gains never cursed at me and, to that matter, neither did Ramin S aka KC Mc Elroy. I always say in debate, "if you have to resort to red hearing or ad homonym attacks or insult someone, then you don't have it and you can't debate." That is a giant red flag that the person is getting frustrated, and he does not have the intellectual means to articulate a response, so he is resorting to cursing. If you do that in college forensics aka debate, you get points deducted, and will get publicly shamed by the judges.
Furthermore, I always like to differ to the experts on certain subjects and you should follow suit. For example, if the subject is on: the American university system, American football, piano/music, Russia, or Germany, perhaps some of you should differ to me. I do the same thing, if the topic is about computers or technology, I will differ to Iran Egethlal Inter. If the topic is about Neurology-Neuroscience, then Spinhead will be my go-to guy. If I wish to discuss Russian literature with someone whom I think might know more than me on the topic, then that would be Chinaski. The problem with that is he is banned so that option bounces back to me. If the topic is about engineering, then because I studied it, like most of you here, then we can equally share the floor. If I have a question about Real Madrid, I will ask Pooya.
If someone wants my recommendation on what mountain bike to purchase, I will say that person to speak with several knowledgeable bicycle store owners, do your research, and select the bike that fits your budget. Now if you tell me, I want to buy a digital piano and my budget is $400, what do you recommend Team Melli? I would say, "I recommend the Yamaha Clavinova 745 or the Roland LX706," because that is a subject, I am very familiar with, and I inked the products inside and out.
If it is a political discussion about the Islamic Revolution of 1979 because it was not during my lifetime and I am not the leading expert on the subject, I would sit back, and let the older members discuss the topic. Then after reading everyone's posts, I would chime in. I understand the basics but there are people here who lived through the experience, I did not so I would not speak on it, until I have all of the facts.
What I am trying to say is if we all
1-Can learn to tolerate people with different opinions than ours, as long as they do not insult us
2- Be kinder to each other
Then politics and iSP can co-exist. I can give an example of how at the old place that you all know, and I won't mention by name we had: The debate was the classic Socialism/Communism vs Capitalism. The Communist member started the debate by claiming "Communism is the perfect system because it promotes equality." I would respond with, "The only reason what is true is because everyone is equally miserable so that is how Communism promotes equality." Notice
1- I did not call my communist adversary any bad names, insult his intelligence or his family.
2- The Communist member could say something like "This is just capitalist indoctrination, and you grew up in the west, so you see things differently than others." And he would have a valid argument. I would respond with, "Take a look at the capitalist countries and the communist countries, economies, scientific studies have shown that the Capitalist countries are more successful economic wise."
That is just one REAL LIFE EXAMPLE of how two people, on different ends of the political spectrum,
had a respectful debate, without resorting to name calling or insulting one another or their family.
3- At the end of the day, while we both acknowledged that our political beliefs did not change however, we had a better understanding the other person's point of view and thanked one another for not resorting to red hearing (waiving a stinky fish) or ad hominin attacks(insults).
This is a CLASSIC example of how two people on opposite sides of the political spectrum, were able to debate respectfully. Also, when push comes to shove, that communist in Europe knows, if he ever needs me for anything, I have family members in Europe who could help him out, Likewise, he made the same offer to me and mentioned he has family members in the States who could reach out to me.
We are studying people with Intellectual Disability or ID for short. I have a theory that those who result to cursing or insults, suffer from some form of ID.
Also, Iran Esteghlal Inter, let me know when that front page is up, I have some ideas. Tehol B, I was thinking the first legend could be what Ali Daei, Mehdi Madavakia, Abedzadeh, Azizi etc? I am leaing to Ali Daei.
